THE CIA AND THE INTELLIGENCE COMMUNITY:
OLD TACTICS USED AGAIN

A CubaNews translation. Edited by Walter Lippmann.

On December 17, 2014, Mr. Obama said that US policy towards Cuba, in place for 50 years, had been a failure and therefore they would begin to implement a new policy. In reality, there is no such new policy. The substance of this is that the method used will be changed, but the goal will remain the same: to overthrow the Cuban Revolution.

Now they will work from the inside, hence their interest in the opening of embassies. They will replace the aggressive policy with "soft power diplomacy", ideological and political subversion, and will try to undermine the foundations of our system to make it collapse. Instead of using coercive measures and others where the hegemonic and arrogant US interests are clearly detected, they will sugar-coat them.

This brings to mind a Pepito [wise-child character in many Cuban jokes] story:

The teacher asked who had done a good deed and naturally Pepito was the first to raise his hand.

“What was the good deed?” asked the teacher.

“I prevented the rape of one of my classmates,” said Pepito

“How did you do that?” asked the teacher.

“Very easy,” Pepito answered, “rather than using force I used sweetness and managed to convince her.”

To convince us, they are trying to create uncertainty among our people, to divide and weaken us; an old tactic being used again.

We must be extremely careful with what we receive by e-mail, from the Internet, Twitter, YouTube and the like, especially if the sender is someone unknown. Besides, we should not begin to echo whatever news we receive without verifying its veracity. We must consider the fact that by re-sending these to our correspondents they can become a rumor that we ourselves are spreading and that they may be malicious lies that the enemy has placed in our networks.

Recently an e-mail saying there had been fraud in the tests of one of our most prestigious academic institutions circulated. The rumor was totally false and the “person” who sent the first mail to a number of addresses was nonexistent. Some comrades received the mail and re-sent it to others, because they believed it was correct to do so. Thus they helped spreading a lie.

A few days ago, another e-mail circulated. It was some tabloid-type news related to comrade Felipe Perez Roque. We could verify that what was said in that e-mail was totally false. Obviously they wanted to use the person's name in an action to damage the image of the Revolution and to make the greatest possible number of people forward the e-mail. They use such lies to sow distrust among comrades in high-ranking positions in the leadership of the country. This is why some of these bogus messages end with the phrase: "Behind the speeches of politicians there is always a high percentage of falsehood."

I have just read some news in which ETECSA denies the legitimacy of a document about Internet services at home [circulated recently]. The same text explains that such a document is not based on a new offer the company is [or will be] making, and therefore the content of the circulated document was not true.

I believe these examples give us an idea of
the activities being developed by enemies of the Revolution. They are trying to create unrest, uncertainty and misconceptions, using the digital media we have.

I am against any kind of censorship.  I think that in Cuba we have the possibility of expressing our opinions on any matter, provided it is properly done. We must all be careful when we get a story that could be sensationalistic, especially if we do not know the sender. We must verify that the information is true before sending it on to acquaintances, friends and subscribers of blogs... I include myself in that.

They are trying to divide us and make us discard the values of the Revolution to finish us off.
