Esther Ciccone, 1919-2015

ESTHER CICCONE, PRESENTE!
When I first heard of Esther Ciccone, and learned that she was a supporter of the Cuban Revolution, a proud member of the Communist Party, USA, and was born on July 26th, I knew she was one of us.

Esther wrote to me when I was in prison up there and I'm terribly sorry to learn she's no longer with us. Please accept my condolences, on behalf of the Cuban Faive and our families, to Esther's family and friends in Los Angeles.

 Cuando por primera vez, oi hablar de Ester Ciccone, y que conoci que apoyaba a la Revolucion Cubana, que ere miembro honorable del Partido Comunista de los Estados Unidos, y que habia nacido un 26 de julio, supe que era uno de nosotros.

Esther me escribió cuando estaba en prisión en ese país y hoy lamento mucho saber que ya no está con nosotros. Reciban sus familiares y amigos en Los Angeles mis condolencias, en nombre de Los Cinco.

The memorial meeting was small, intimate and meaningful.  A condolence message from Gerardo, one of the Cuban 5, was read.  Uncle Ruthie, from a children's' radio show, did a somewhat sad and very incisive poem and then a song.  A Salvadoran comrade/refugee recounted how Esther had invited him to where he found a fraternal party and I?  

I listened quietly to to the hearts that were touched by the love of life, of struggle, of sex, of people that she exemplified while living the good, good life and fighting the even better fight,,,A Jew for Palestine, with black grand children and born on July 26...just like the July 26th movement that changed qualitatively the direction of Latin America and the hopes of all who know there is a better life to be had but have been unable to figure out how to attain it and how to keep it with out the coups and selective assassinations by the greatest military power on earth led now by a black man that has called for a blockade against Venezuela and has called for the end of the one against Cuba.
