The winners of the 3rd
Cartoon Festival/Contest were
given their awards yesterday at the
Fortress La Cabaña, as part
of the broad and diverse
program of the 24th
International Book Fair.
This third
edition will be especially
remembered because the prizes were delivered
to the winning children
by the Hero of the Republic
of Cuba, Gerardo Hernandez Nordelo. The
previous editions of the Festival/Contest had been dedicated to Gerardo
and his four compañeros,
to divulge among our children the facts of the
unjust imprisonment of the
Five.
Thus,
children from several
provinces received books and
drawing materials, courtesy
of publishers Abril,
Pablo de la Torriente
and Palante as well as
from the International Committee of
Solidarity with the Five,
organizers of the contest.
The theme of the
Cartoon Festival was drawing how Cuban children
would celebrate their meeting with the Five when they returned home.
On
the Day of
Love and Friendship
[Valentine's Day], there were countless
displays of respect, love and admiration for
the Five. It took a long time for Gerardo
to reach the area where
national media cartoonists were offering
their art to the public
because, at every step,
people of all ages
wanted to say hello and
ask him for autographs
and photos. But
Gerardo did arrive,
and the artists gave
a warm welcome to their Hero
colleague.

Premia Gerardo Festival de la Caricatura
Pioneros de varias provincias recibieron libros y materiales de
dibujo, cortesía de las editoras Abril, Pablo de la Torriente y
Palante, así como del Comité Internacional de Solidaridad con los
Cinco, organizadores del certamen
Esta tercera edición será especialmente recordada por la singularidad de que los premios a los niños ganadores fueron entregados por el Héroe de la República de Cuba Gerardo Hernández Nordelo, a quien estuvieron dedicadas, junto a sus compañeros de lucha, las ediciones anteriores del concurso, promovido precisamente para divulgar entre nuestros niños lo injusto del encierro de los Cinco.
Así, pioneros de varias provincias recibieron libros y materiales de dibujo, cortesía de las editoras Abril, Pablo de la Torriente y Palante, así como del Comité Internacional de Solidaridad con los Cinco, organizadores del certamen.
El objetivo de este Festival de la Caricatura era que los pioneros dibujaran cómo festejarían los niños cubanos el encuentro con los Cinco cuando todos estuvieran juntos en casa.
En el Día del Amor y de la Amistad, no faltaron las muestras de respeto, cariño y admiración por los Cinco, y Gerardo tardó en llegar hasta el área donde los caricaturistas de los medios nacionales regalaban su arte al público pues, a cada paso, personas de todas las edades querían saludarlo y le solicitaban autógrafos y fotos. Pero Gerardo llegó, y los artistas le prodigaron una calurosa bienvenida al Héroe colega.
