THE U.S. AND THE STRUGGLE AGAINST EBOLA

There are strong
indications that the serious
outbreak of Ebola
facing humanity today
does not come from Central
Africa but this time
arose from a new strain
of the disease developed by
U.S. government biological warfare
laboratories. The virus was injected in
humans in field trials
carried out by the Department
of Defense shortly before
the current outbreak.
This is mentioned in
an essay by the prominent
investigative journalist Paul
Craig Roberts, and
former Assistant Secretary of
the Treasury during President
Ronald Reagan’s
administration and former
associate editor of the
Wall Street
Journal. This is also
the conclusion reached by
a group of 30 doctors and
scientists published
on the website of the
New England Journal
of Medicine. And it
is also the view expressed
by Liberian-born Dr. Cyril
Broderick, professor at the
University of Delaware
who is a strong critic of the
role of large pharmaceutical
corporations.
The US
government
has a long history of
using unaware
human subjects for
experiments and studies on
the effects of diseases
and their cures.
An
interesting fact
brought out by Roberts
is that there were persons who had advance
warning that there would be
an outbreak of Ebola.
The New
York Daily
News reported that Phoenix
Air, an aviation company
based in the capital of
Arizona, has a
specially-equipped plane
to transport Ebola patients;
and the company´s
Vice-President said it took two-and-a-half
years to equip and
ready that plane. It
is recalled that the first
Ebola outbreak began
only six or seven
months ago.
Francis
Boyle, a law professor
at the University of
Illinois, who has been
known for his reporting on
Washington’s fallacies, has
recalled that Sierra
Leone and Liberia, the
nations most affected by the
Ebola outbreak,
are the two West African
countries where the
United States government
operates laboratories
specializing in biological warfare experiments.
Professor Boyle also
wonders how a disease discovered in
Zaire could
have reached Western Africa three
thousand miles away?
Health authorities
in the US have not imposed
quarantine
on travel to the United
States from infected
countries. U.S. airlines keep flying
to and from infected
countries despite the
risk of introducing
new
cases,
said Roberts. Africans are
doing a much better job than
the
hegemonic superpower: they have closed
their borders, prevented
air travel, and are tracking
infected persons and those
exposed to infection.
Roberts
regrets that, rather than
taking reasoned precautions, Washington
has appointed a "czar"
(a lawyer –not a doctor– who served as
chief of staff for Vice
President Joseph Biden) to head
everything related to the
Ebola crisis. Instead
of doctors, they are
sending 4,000 soldiers
to infected areas.
On Wednesday
October 15, the U.S. Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention
(CDC) confirmed
a second positive case
of Ebola in the nation.
She was a nurse at a
hospital in Dallas,
who expected to be
transferred to one of four
hospitals in the country
with an isolation unit
at the highest level for a
proper management of Ebola
cases. The nurse, who
had direct and
extensive contact with the
first patient who died,
was only under
"observation", but was never
isolated nor
quarantined, so she could
travel to Cleveland
by plane on October 13.
The CDC
is now working
on the identification and
location of all the
individuals who may have been on
that plane.
This case
has generated intense
exchanges of mutual accusations. The
CDC and other authorities
blame the infected
nurse for not following the protection
protocols properly. The National
Nurses United (NNU)
insisted that "our
nurses are not protected or
trained to treat patients
with Ebola, nor
for the management of any
other pandemic. (...)
The protocols for Ebola case
management which should have been
followed in
Dallas were not implemented
and nor are they
anywhere in the United
States."
Meanwhile,
the most diverse conspiracy
theories about the
origins of the epidemic are spreading
faster than Ebola itself. "And
the conspiracies might be
true," says Paul Craig
Roberts and asks, "Just as
Republicans want to privatize
and subcontract everything,
why not shut down
Washington and subcontract our administration
to a more competent country?"

UNIDOS Y LA LUCHA CONTRA EL ÉBOLA

Existen fuertes indicios de que el grave brote de ébola que hoy enfrenta
la humanidad no proviene del África Central sino que esta vez surgió de
una nueva cepa de la enfermedad desarrollada en laboratorios de guerra
biológica del gobierno estadounidense, inyectada a seres humanos en
pruebas de campo realizadas por su Departamento de Defensa poco antes de
desatarse el brote actual.
Eso dice en un ensayo el destacado periodista investigador Paul Craig
Roberts, ex Secretario Adjunto del Tesoro en el gobierno de Ronald
Reagan y ex editor asociado del Wall Street Journal, y esa es también la
conclusión a que llegó un grupo de 30 médicos y otros científicos
publicada en el sitio web de la New England Journal of Medicine. Ese es
igualmente el criterio expresado por el doctor Cyril Broderick, profesor
de la Universidad de Delaware oriundo de Liberia, fuerte crítico del
papel de las grandes corporaciones farmacéuticas. El gobierno
estadounidense tiene largo historial de utilización de seres humanos
incautos para experimentos y estudios sobre los efectos de las
enfermedades y su curación.
Un dato interesante que aporta Roberts es que había quienes tenían aviso
anticipado de que iba a haber un brote de ébola. El New York Daily News
informó que una empresa de aviación basada en la capital de Arizona, la
Phoenix Air, dispone de un avión equipado especialmente para el
transporte de pacientes de ébola y el vicepresidente de la compañía dijo
que se requirieron dos años y medio para equipar y poner a punto ese
avión. Se recuerda que el primer brote de ébola comenzó hace apenas seis
o siete meses.
Francis Boyle, un profesor de derecho de la Universidad de Illinois, que
se ha destacado por sus denuncias sobre falacias de Washington, ha
recordado que Sierra Leona y Liberia, las naciones más afectadas por el
brote de ébola, son los dos países de África occidental donde el
gobierno de Estados Unidos opera laboratorios especializados en
experimentos de guerra biológica. El profesor Boyle se pregunta, además,
cómo es posible que una enfermedad descubierta en Zaire, pudo llegar a
África occidental, a tres mil quinientos kilómetros de distancia.
Las autoridades sanitarias estadounidenses no han impuesto cuarentena
alguna en los viajes a Estados Unidos procedentes de los países
infectados. Las aerolíneas estadounidenses siguen volando a y desde los
países infectados pese al riesgo que ello implica de introducir de
nuevas infestaciones en su país, hace notar Craig Roberts. Los países
africanos están haciendo un trabajo mucho mejor que la superpotencia
hegemónica. Han cerrado sus fronteras, impedido viajes aéreos y rastrean
personas infectadas y aquellas expuestas a infectarse.
Craig Roberts lamenta que, en lugar de tomar precauciones razonadas,
Washington haya nombrado a un “zar” (un abogado que fungió como jefe del
despacho del vicepresidente Biden y no un médico) para encabezar todo lo
relacionado con la crisis del ébola y que, en vez de médicos, esté
enviando 4.000 soldados a las áreas donde bate la enfermedad.
El miércoles 15 de octubre, el Centro de Control y Prevención de
Enfermedades (CDC), de EEUU, confirmó un segundo caso positivo de ébola
en esa nación. Era una enfermera de un hospital de Dallas, que esperaba
ser transferida a uno de los cuatro hospitales del país que cuenta con
una unidad de aislamiento del más alto nivel para un adecuado manejo de
los casos con ébola. La enfermera, que tuvo contacto directo y extenso
con el primer fallecido, estuvo solo bajo "observación", pero nunca fue
aislada ni estuvo en cuarentena, por lo que pudo viajar a Cleveland en
avión el 13 de octubre. El CDC está trabajando ahora en la
identificación y localización de todas las personas que pudieron haber
viajado en ese avión.
Este caso ha generado un intenso intercambio de acusaciones recíprocas
luego que el CDC y otras autoridades culparan a la enfermera infectada
de no haber cumplido debidamente el protocolo de protección y el
sindicato nacional de enfermeras (NNU o National Nurses United)
denunciara que "nuestras enfermeras no están protegidas y no están
capacitadas para tratar a pacientes con ébola o para el manejo de
cualquier otra pandemia. (…) Los protocolos para el manejo de casos con
ébola que debían haberse seguido en Dallas no fueron implementados y no
lo están en ninguna parte de Estados Unidos".
Mientras tanto, las más diversas teorías de conspiración acerca del
origen de la epidemia se extienden más rápido que el mismo ébola. “Y las
conspiraciones podrían ser ciertas”, subraya el periodista y pregunta:
“Así como los republicanos quieren privatizarlo y todo subcontratarlo, ¿por
qué no cerrar Washington y subcontratar nuestro gobierno a un país más
competente?”, concluye Paul Craig Roberts.
