ZonZoNet Whoever invented the name ZunZuneo with USAID money to subvert Cuba thought like gringos and not Cubans. They tried to find the equivalent of the English word and anglicized Twitter and tweet for short social communication through mobile phones. I found it more like a Cuban bird that could be identified by its song, and the hummingbird (which does not sing) occurred to me. Instead of choosing a word to impose "tweet " in the Cuban media, they could have used a term such as "run run" , whose Cuban connotation is something that is said and runs from one side to another, but softly. Instead of that cubanismo, what triumphed was gringoismo . Those who thought of the hummingbird does not seem to know the history of Cuba; rather they approached the English connotation of making ridiculous ["He is a twit."] Indeed, it is realized that the hummingbird, like two tiny bijirita -also Cuban birds- have a connotation in history for the national liberation of Cuba . During the war for independence against the Spanish metropolis, Cubans were known among the forces of Madrid as warblers; and in turn those were called tomeguines [grassquit]. [1] It was very surprising that no one in the USIA or in the business of subversion against Cuba knew that the organization of the children Cubans José Martí Pioneers Organization, has as its symbol the Zunzún . [2] This lack of historical sense and understanding would have been reflected better if the project had been called ZonZoNet. Indeed, this was a silly project without the slightest sense of history and context in the country which they wanted to influence. ....................
