ZonZoNet

Whoever invented the name ZunZuneo with USAID money to subvert Cuba thought like gringos and not Cubans. They tried to find the equivalent of the English word and anglicized Twitter and tweet for short social communication through mobile phones.

 I found it more like a Cuban bird that could be identified by its song, and the hummingbird (which does not sing) occurred to me. Instead of choosing a word to impose "tweet " in the Cuban media, they could have used a term such as "run run" , whose Cuban connotation is something that is said and runs from one side to another, but softly. Instead of that cubanismo, what triumphed was gringoismo .

 Those who thought of the hummingbird does not seem to know the history of Cuba; rather they approached the English connotation of making ridiculous ["He is a twit."]

 Indeed, it is realized that the hummingbird, like two tiny bijirita -also Cuban birds- have a connotation in history for the national liberation of Cuba . During the war for independence against the Spanish metropolis, Cubans were known among the forces of Madrid as warblers; and in turn those were called tomeguines [grassquit]. [1]

 It was very surprising that no one in the USIA or in the business of subversion against Cuba knew that the organization of the children Cubans José Martí Pioneers Organization, has as its symbol the Zunzún . [2]

 This lack of historical sense and understanding would have been reflected better if the project had been called ZonZoNet. Indeed, this was a silly project without the slightest sense of history and context in the country which they wanted to influence.

Los que inventaron el nombre ZunZuneo con dinero del USAID a fin de subvertir a Cuba pensaban como gringos y no como cubanos. Trataron de encontrar el equivalente de la palabra en inglés Twitter y del anglicismo Tuiteo o comunicación social corta mediante teléfonos móviles. Lo más parecido les resultó un pájaro cubano que pudiera identificarse por su canto, y se les ocurrió el zunzún (que no canta). En vez de escoger una palabra que impusiera el “tuit” en el medio cubano, pudieron haber utilizado un término como, por ejemplo, “run run”, cuya connotación cubana es algo que se dice y corre de un lado para otro, pero en voz baja. En vez de ese cubanismo, lo que triunfó fue el gringuismo.

Esos que pensaron en el zunzún no parece que supieran de Historia de Cuba; más bien se acercaban a la connotación en inglés del que hace el ridículo ["He is a twit"].

En efecto, no se dieron cuenta de que el zunzún, como la bijirita -dos pequeñísimos pajaritos cubanos – tienen una connotación en la historia por la liberación nacional de Cuba. Durante la guerra por la independencia contra la metrópoli española los cubanos eran conocidos entre las fuerzas de Madrid como bijiritas; y a su vez aquellos las llamaban tomeguines [grassquit]. Resulta altamente sorprendente que nadie en USIA o en el negocio de la subversión contra Cuba supiera que la organización de los niños cubanos -la Organización de Pioneros José Martí– tiene como su propio símbolo al Zunzún. [2]

Esa falta de sentido histórico y conocimiento se habría reflejado mejor si el proyecto se hubiera llamado ZonZoNet. En efecto, este fue un proyecto de tontos sin el más mínimo sentido de la historia y del contexto en que vive el país que querían influenciar.
