Traffic accident rate decreases in Artemisa

ARTEMISA.— Las estrategias trazadas en la provincia han traído consigo
una disminución del índice de accidentalidad. Durante el primer
trimestre del 2013 estuvo entre las más afectadas del país, teniendo
lugar cinco accidentes masivos; en igual periodo del actual año no se ha
reportado ninguno.
Según informó el capitán Pedro Pablo Hernández, jefe del Destacamento
Provincial de Tránsito, “el territorio avanza de forma positiva. A
partir de los resultados del primer trimestre del año pasado realizamos
estudios sobre los puntos de conflicto o tramos peligrosos, e
identificamos las vías donde ocurre el mayor número de incidentes,
mientras Ingeniería del Tránsito incrementó las señales en los lugares
antes mencionados.
“Además, las fuerzas de la Unidad de Vigilancia y Patrullaje hicieron
cambios en el enfrentamiento, la Comisión de Seguridad Vial emprendió
otras acciones y ya en el segundo semestre se comenzó a apreciar una
mejoría”, agregó.
Entre enero y febrero de la actual etapa han ocurrido 58 accidentes, 20
menos que en igual periodo del año anterior; no hay fallecidos por esta
causa y 24 personas se han lesionado.
La provincia tiene 13 puntos de conflicto (donde hay una mayor
concentración de accidentes) y 26 tramos peligrosos. Sobre las acciones
a desarrollar en el área comenta Hernández que “participa en el
enfrentamiento durante el horario diurno la Unidad de Regulación
Operativa, y después se mantienen al tanto de la situación los carros de
patrulla, lo cual nos ha dado resultados positivos.
“También, hemos incrementado la educación vial, y tenido una mayor labor
preventiva en los medios de comunicación provinciales, se han realizado
conferencias en las empresas y visitado los lugares donde la
accidentalidad nos está golpeando, así como recibido un mejor apoyo de
la Comisión de Seguridad Vial del territorio. Esta última, entre otros
aspectos, fomentó la creación del parque temático, donde los niños
reciben instrucciones sobre el tránsito, dirigidas propiamente a la
familia”.
Artemisa no está afectada en accidentes de tránsito con el caso de los
peatones, recientemente concluyó la campaña Ni un paso en falso,
dirigida a estos.
Por otra parte, es la mejor provincia del país en la Operación
Responsabilidad (pago y cobro de las multas de los infractores), “lo
cual ha sido posible gracias a la estrecha vinculación que tenemos con
el Órgano de Trámites, damos un seguimiento a los casos connotados y de
conjunto hacemos un análisis puntual de estos”, precisó el capitán.
Insiste además en que deben fortalecerse las acciones referidas a los
animales sueltos en la vía. Con un móvil operativo de tránsito localizan
las áreas afectadas por esta causa, se cita a los propietarios del
ganado para advertirle sobre los principales riesgos al respecto y se
multan en los casos necesarios.
En el 2013 el territorio cerró con 483 accidentes de tránsito, mientras
en la etapa anterior llegaron a 588. Lograr disminuir estas cifras es el
principal objetivo.
