LIES AND FAKERY AS IMPERIALIST WEAPONS

 Someone has said that the elite that rules the United States, over the government elected by the citizens, hides with excessive frequency garbage under the rug and then forgets where it left it. Proof of this statement is abundant in the history of U.S. imperialism from the moment of its emergence after the war against Spain in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

That conflagration was born with the lie over a self-inflicted aggression against battleship Maine, anchored in Havana harbor on a courtesy visit to the colonial authorities. This served as a pretext for the brand new American empire to declare war on a decadent Spain --further weakened by anti-colonial struggles-- and thus get hold of the remnants of Spain’s colonial empire, from Hawaii and the Philippines to the Caribbean.

Up to the present, the United States has not acknowledged that mendacious manipulation which their leaders hid under the carpet of the official history imposed by the victor.

From then until today, the manipulation of events has been systematically used by U.S. government leaders to justify the aggressive actions that begin all their wars to impose U.S. hegemony on a region or the planet.

 It can be said that, since then, all U.S. imperialist wars have begun with a lie adjusted to the internal needs of the superpower; aimed at accommodating Congress, national and foreign public opinion, or the specific interests of certain sectors of the empire. In all cases, the imperial elite has used all the resources of government and the control it exercises over the mainstream media, to support these fabrications.

The first decade of this century began with a series of attacks on what was then the Yugoslav Federation. Based on lies and manipulations, Washington -almost always with the support and complicit participation of the NATO countries- conducted a number of aggressions against that group of nations. Under the leadership of Josif Broz Tito, they had managed to maintain a precarious federative union which led him to play an important unifying role within the Movement of Non-Aligned Nations which favored a global balance and gave Yugoslavia considerable prestige as an independent country.

Then came the attacks on Iraq and Libya, both with justifications based on lies as surely are the present accusations against Syria .

The existence of banned weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and its governmental links with the terrorist organization Al Qaeda proved to be absolutely fabricated and false when the country had already been destroyed and its president murdered.

A similar scenario and an identical outcome were present in Libya a few years later.

To the scorn of world public opinion, the current head of the White House, Barack Obama, is now presenting himself before the U.S. and world public opinion as being ready to destroy Syria with similar or even less credible pretexts than those used by George W. Bush as he prepared to attack Iraq and Libya.

The self-appointed owners of the world claim this time that the president of Syria --against whom Washington's propaganda machine has been spending political bullets for a long time--, has provoked a humanitarian crisis in his own country by using chemical weapons against his own people.

 Of course, with so many background examples fresh in recent history, no one believes him; but everything suggests that the elite which rules the United States over the elected government expects, once again, that the information machine they have in place in the entire world will make impunity viable.

In the worst possible scenario, they have in the White House a disposable president. His unexpected access to power was only made possible by the elite itself because of the huge multi-faceted crisis in which the superpower was immersed under the reactionary ultra-right governments that followed the path opened by Ronald Reagan and which hit bottom with the shameful administration of George W. Bush.

Now, Barack Obama looks insecure and worried about a local humanitarian crisis in Damascus. He is in the position of maximum responsibility for so many crimes - incomparably more serious than those he is trying to claim were committed in Syria. These crimes were generated everywhere by the United States, from the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki to the daily drone attacks in Pakistan.

    MENTIRA Y SIMULACIÓN COMO ARMA IMPERIALISTA

Alguien ha dicho que la elite que gobierna en Estados Unidos por encima del gobierno que eligen los ciudadanos, esconde con excesiva frecuencia la basura bajo la alfombra y luego olvida dónde la dejó. Y pruebas de este aserto no faltan en la historia del imperialismo estadounidense desde el momento mismo de su surgimiento tras la guerra contra España a fines del siglo XIX e inicios del XX.

Esa conflagración nació de una mentirosa auto agresión contra el acorazado Maine, surto en puerto habanero en visita de cortesía a las autoridades coloniales, que sirvió de pretexto para que el flamante imperio estadounidense declarase la guerra a una España decadente, debilitada además por las luchas anticoloniales, para hacerse de los remanentes de su imperio colonial, desde Hawái y las Filipinas hasta el Caribe.

Todavía hoy, Estados Unidos no ha reconocido aquella mendaz manipulación de sus dirigentes de entonces, oculta bajo la alfombra de la historia oficial impuesta por el vencedor.

Desde entones hasta hoy, la manipulación de los hechos ha sido sistemáticamente usada por los líderes de gobierno estadounidenses para justificar sus acciones agresivas iniciales de todas sus contiendas por imponer su hegemonía a escala regional o planetaria.

Puede afirmarse que, desde entonces, todas las guerras imperialistas de Estados Unidos han comenzado con una gran mentira ajustada a necesidades internas de la superpotencia, dirigidas a acomodar al Congreso, la opinión pública nacional, la extranjera, o a determinados intereses específicos de algún sector del imperio. En todos los casos la cúpula imperial ha utilizado todos los recursos del gobierno y el control que ésta ejerce sobre los medios fundamentales de información (mainstream media) para apoyar esas fabricaciones.

La primera década del presente siglo comenzó con una serie de agresiones contra lo que fue la federación de Yugoslavia. A base de mentiras y manipulaciones, Washington -casi siempre con el aval y la participación cómplice de países de la OTAN- llevó a cabo una cadena de agresiones contra ese grupo de naciones que bajo el liderato de Josif Broz Tito había logrado mantener una precaria unión federativa que le propició desempeñar un importante papel integrador entre los países no alineados favorecedor de un equilibrio mundial que dio a Yugoslavia notable prestigio como país independiente.

Luego vendrían las agresiones contra Iraq y Libia, en ambos casos a partir de justificaciones tan mentirosas como seguramente lo son las actuales acusaciones contra Siria.

La existencia de armas prohibidas de destrucción masiva en Iraq y los vínculos de su gobierno con la organización terrorista Al Qaeda demostraron ser absolutamente inventados y falsos, cuando ya el país había sido destruido y su presidente asesinado.

Un parecido escenario, así como un desenlace idéntico estuvieron presentes en Libia pocos años después.

Para escarnio de la opinión pública mundial, el actual Jefe de la Casa Blanca, Barack Obama, se presenta ahora ante la opinión pública norteamericana y mundial, dispuesto a destruir a Siria con pretextos similares o menos creíbles aún que los que antes utilizara George W. Bush cuando se preparaba para agredir a Iraq y a Libia.

Aducen esta vez los pretendidos dueños del mundo que el presidente de Siria –contra quien hace mucho tiempo viene gastando balas la maquinaria propagandista estadounidense- ha provocado una crisis humanitaria en su país usando armas químicas contra su propio pueblo.

Por supuesto, con tantos antecedentes frescos disponibles, nadie le cree, pero todo hace pensar que la cúpula que gobierna en Estados Unidos por encima del gobierno electo espera que una vez más la maquinaria de información que tienen estructurada en todo el mundo viabilice la impunidad.

En el peor escenario, tienen en la Casa Blanca a un presidente desechable cuyo acceso inesperado al poder le fuera viabilizado por la propia cúpula solo por motivo de la enorme crisis multifacética en la que se había situado la superpotencia bajo reaccionarios gobiernos de extrema derecha que siguieron la senda abierta por Ronald Reagan y tocaron fondo con la vergonzosa presidencia de George W. Bush.

Ahora, se advierte a Barack Obama inseguro, preocupado por una crisis humanitaria local en Damasco desde su posición de responsable máximo a nivel mundial de tantos crímenes – incomparablemente más graves y mayores que pretende denunciar en Siria- generados por Estados Unidos por doquier, desde las bombardeos atómicos en Japón hasta los casi cotidianos ataques con drones en Paquistán.
