Braille Print Shop Reopens in Havana

The Recreational Cultural Center of the National Association for the Blind reopened the operation of its Braille print shop for the satisfaction of blind readers, reported AIN.
Ricardo Prada Alvarez, Director of the facility, said the printing machine was repaired with the contributions of the Spanish National Organization for the Blind. This made it possible to resume the production of texts for the special reading areas of the disabled and the publication of magazine Faro and the ANCI newsletter.
He said they are working on the edition of works that will be presented at the coming International Book Fair, Cuba 2014 and will be made available to the blind.
Special maps and didactic games were donated to the Center's library, the largest of this type in Cuba. The library is preparing to work together with Special [for the disabled] School Abel Santamaría in Havana.
Another important contribution, Prada said, came from Handicap International. This made it possible to obtain a bus that would allow taking culture and recreation to the blind in other provinces.

El Centro Cultural Recreativo de la Asociación Nacional del Ciego, ANCI,
reinició el funcionamiento de su imprenta Braille, para beneplácito de
los lectores invidentes, informó la AIN.
Ricardo Prada Álvarez, director de la instalación, dijo que la máquina
impresora se logró reparar con el apoyo de la Organización Nacional de
Ciegos Españoles, lo que permitió reanudar la producción de textos para
las áreas especiales de lectura de esos discapacitados, así como también
la salida de la revista Faro y el boletín de la ANCI.
Señaló que se trabaja ya en la edición de obras para la próxima Feria
Internacional del Libro, Cuba 2014, a fin de continuar la entrega a ese
sector poblacional.
También se entregaron mapas en relieve y juegos didácticos para la
biblioteca del centro, la mayor de su tipo en Cuba, instalación que a la
vez se prepara para un trabajo más unido con la capitalina escuela
especial Abel Santamaría.
Otro aporte importante, agregó Prada, fue el de la organización Handicap
Internacional, que permitió la adquisición de un ómnibus, con vistas a
llevar la cultura y la recreación a los invidentes de otras provincias.
