We artists are moved to compose because being in one’s own country is the most important thing a creator can have.” “I had the chance to be one of the first (to perform in Cuba). Xiomara Laugart was already here, and Malena Burke came two or three weeks ago, so have other artists who live abroad. But for me it is a great honor, a pleasure and a blessing to be here,” he added. Delgado started his performance stressing that this was his “first time” in Cuba after seven years. He thanked Silvio Rodriguez for the invitation and immediately sang Necesito una amigo [I need a friend] well-known by the audience who sang together and clapped at the contagious rhythm of one of the most popular salseros in the Island. Three more pieces followed: his version of Silvio Rodriguez’ Quien fuera, a song for which he feels a “special love.” He then sang Solar La California which he describes as a “social chronicle of Havana” and Cubanos which he dedicated in premiere and announced he planned to record it with Cuban band “Los Van Van”. Isaac Delgado, 50, explained he left Cuba in 2006 and since then has visited the Island at least five times, because here he has most of his family including a granddaughter. “This is the first time I’m going to sing for the Cuban public with advance notice,” he said and remembered that last January he had been invited to the stage at a recital of musician Carlos Varela in Havana. "El chévere de la Salsa" established an immediate rapport with the audience who sang all the songs he performed accompanied by Rodriguez’ musicians and pianist Roberto Carlos Rodriguez, grandson of the recently-deceased musician Bebo Valdes. “Everything I have done in my career, my formation was here; a lot of people who know me are here, because I was formed here, and today it's a fact that I am working here. I am singing for my friends, for my people; so from now on whatever happens tomorrow, let it happen,” he stated. Isaac Delgado, residente en EEUU, vuelve a cantar en Cuba La Habana, 29 mar (EFE).- El cantante cubano Isaac Delgado, conocido como el "Chévere de la Salsa", que reside en Estados Unidos desde hace varios años, celebró hoy su reencuentro artístico con el público de isla durante un concierto que ofreció el cantautor Silvio Rodríguez en el barrio habanero de Tamarindo. "Esta es una invitación que me hizo Silvio y para mi es tremendo honor que me hace. Obviamente hay un eco internacional de lo que está sucediendo porque no ha sido habitual que un artista que está residiendo fuera de Cuba venga a cantar aquí, pero yo lo veo como un hecho natural", dijo Delgado en declaraciones a Efe. Silvio Rodríguez lo presentó ante el público congregado ante un improvisado escenario montado en medio de la calle que había traído "a un viejo y muy querido amigo, no tan viejo porque él es joven, hace muchos años lo conozco, es lo que quiero decir, muy querido por nuestro pueblo, muy merecidamente: Isaac Delgado". El cantante y compositor que vive entre la Florida y Puerto Rico, afirmó que Cuba "es algo bien grande para nosotros, se lleva en la sangre, en el sentimiento, espiritualmente, a los artistas nos remueve para componer porque estar en el país de uno es lo más importante que puede tener un creador". "Me ha tocado a mi ser uno de los primeros (en presentarse en Cuba) porque ya estuvo aquí Xiomara Laugart, Malena Burke hace dos o tres semanas y otros artistas que viven fuera de Cuba. Pero para mi es un tremendo honor, un placer y una bendición estar aquí", añadió. Delgado abrió su actuación subrayando que es su "primera vez" en Cuba, después de siete años, agradeció la iniciativa de Silvio Rodríguez y de inmediato interpretó la canción "Necesito una amiga", conocida de los presentes que le hicieron coros y palmearon al ritmo contagioso de uno de los salseros más populares de la isla. Le siguieron otros tres títulos, su versión de "Quien fuera", un tema de Silvio Rodríguez que dijo tenerle "un amor especial", y detrás cantó "Solar La California, descrito por él como "una crónica social de La Habana", y a ello sumó "Cubanos", que dedicó en "primicia" y anunció que proyectan grabarlo con la orquesta cubana "Los Van Van". Isaac Delgado, de 50 años, explicó que salió de Cuba en 2006 y que desde entonces ha visitado la isla al menos cinco veces, porque aquí tiene a la mayor parte de su familia, incluida una nieta. "Esta es la primera vez que voy a cantar avisado para el público cubano", precisó, aunque recordó que ya en enero pasado fue invitado a subir al escenario durante un recital del músico Carlos Varela en La Habana. "El chévere de la Salsa" estableció de inmediato una comunicación con el público que coreó las canciones que interpretó respaldado por los músicos de Rodríguez y acompañado por el pianista Roberto Carlos Rodríguez, nieto del recién fallecido músico Bebo Valdés. "Todo lo que he hecho en mi carrera, la formación mía ha sido aquí, mucha gente que está aquí me conoce porque me formé aquí y el hecho de hoy es que estoy trabajando aquí, que estoy cantándole a mi gente, a mi pueblo, así es que de ahora en adelante lo que suceda mañana que suceda", subrayó.
