Elizardo Sanchez, defender of murderers
By René Vázquez Díaz
A CubaNews translation by Sean Joseph Clancy. .
Edited by Walter Lippmann.
Is a list of Cuban political prisoners necessary to justify the unjust
Common European Position or the excesses of the blockade or to also
forget that the U.S. has a torture centre in Guantanamo?
Insofar as it may be utilised, the actual content would be of no import.
The devaluation of truth and decency in this regard, which has the
objective of imposing even more obstacles Cuba's wau, has surpassed
every conceivable level of abusiveness.
A look at the list of political prisoners that Elizardo Sanchez has just
released reveals that it is a supreme example of false anti-Cuban
propaganda. Although, as an indicator of what the real human rights
situation within Cuba is, it is awesomely unabashed. Leaving aside a
series of names that the same Sanchez has admitted are fake, I will
review some particularly grubby examples.
Elias Perez Bocourt and Erik Salmeron formed part of a group that burst
into a children’s fun-park at the Cuban beach of Tarara on 9 January
1992, surprising the three guards, taking an AK rifle and other weapons
and leaving them tied-up on the ground. Their purpose was to steal a
launch and illegally enter the U.S. where they would be welcomed in
spite of their criminal piracy, thanks to the existence of The Cuban
Adjustment Act, in place since 1966. Finding themselves unable to start
the motor-boat, the three opened machine gun fire and cold-bloodedly
murdered the tied-up guards. A young police official who arrived on the
scene to investigate was also shot dead. The killers were apprehended by
the police within 24 hours and two of then were sentenced to death.
Nevertheless Perez Bocourt is serving a 30 year prison sentence and Erik
Salmeron one of 25 years.
In what is an almost incomprehensible and insidious lie, Elizardo
Sanchez--unable to fill the lists for which he is paid by the U.S. and
certain European embassies, due the mass release of so-called
dissidents—has to include in his list of the victims of human-rights
violations, these terrorists who spilt the blood of innocents. For
anyone unfamiliar with the facts of this atrocity, the misleading
description by Elizardo Sanchez may be confusing. He states that neither
Bocourt nor Salmeron were “opposed to the regime” at the time of the
crime—which should have been of itself enough to keep them off the
list—and that “two members of the group were executed and various police
died as a result”. We have an insight here into Sanchez' humanism, the
number of executed murderers’ counts but the number of their victims
does not. He knows that four officials were massacred but says “various”
to soften the impact of the crime. He also knows that this was a brutal
murder, but he prefers to use a less forthright selection of words,
“died as a result”. Leaving open any doubt as to who killed the young
police officers, as though it may have been by a bolt from the sky or by
the hand of the Cuban government, is verbal pirouetting.
On the night of October 15, 1994 some young fishing enthusiasts were
surprised on the gravel-road between Caibarien and Cayo Santa Maria by a
Miami-based terrorist cell. Armed with four pistols, an M-4, an AR-15
and five AK-47 rifles, the band included Miguel Diaz Bouza, Humerto
Eladio Real Suarez and Armando Sosa Fortuny. Their mission was to kill
Cubans, attack tourist facilities, generate panic within the population
and recruit terrorist gangs. One of the fishermen approached them,
without having any idea they may be have been hostile, and was murdered
on the spot. His colleagues made a miraculous escape by immediately
throwing themselves into the sea amid cries of “kill them all” by one of
the infiltrators.
Elizardo Sanchez now has the gall to inform international agencies that
still pay attention to him that the sentences imposed on these
terrorists indicate to what extent the Cuban government violates human
rights. He immorally covers-up that Real Suarez was sentenced to death
for what he did but that his sentence was commuted to 30 years in jail.
Sanchez’s list dehumanizes Arcilio Dionisio Rodriguez Garcia, the real
victim of this crime, who was 34 years old at the time of his
assassination.
On 10 April 2003, five men forcefully overpowered a Military Service
recruit on Isla de la Juventud (Isle of Youth) and stole his AK-M rifle.
Hours later they were detained in a parking-lot at the airport. The car
in which they travelled contained the rifle and bayonet, three chargers
and two knives. They intended to board, by use of armed force, a plane
on the Havana-Nuevo Gerona route, to hold the passengers hostage and to
force the pilot to fly to Miami. The terrorists were named as Leudios
Arce Romero, Lazaro Avila Sierra, Jose Angel Diaz Ortiz, Jorge Luiz
Perez Fuentes and Francisco Reyes Rodríguez and Elizardo Sanchez assures
us that they are victims of the Cuban government's disregard for human
rights. The aircraft they intended to hijack had 30 people on board,
many of whom were children.
Here are some more of the names Sanchez offers us as being of political
activists imprisoned in Cuba; Maxima Pradera Valdez, Hihosvanni Suris de
la Torre and Santiago Padron Valdes. These Miami-Cubans form part of a
US-based terrorist gang which disembarked on the Villa Clara coast in
April 2001. To engage in the political activism espoused by Elizardo
Sanchez, which was to carry out a massacre in the well-known Tropicana
Cabaret, these infiltrators carried a long-range weapon with a
telescopic sight and silencer, four AK-47 assault rifles, four pistols
and plenty of ammunition.
Karel de Miranda Rubio, Alain Forbes Lamoru,
Rider Lescay Veloz, Leandro Cerezo Sirut and Yoan Torrez are former
Cuban military personnel who killed two hostages on 3 May
2007 during an armed attempt to hijack an aircraft. Their names are also
on Sanchez’s list. There is ample information on the internet to
continue unearthing many more names falsely called political prisoners.
I am not going to go through them on a case by case basis here.
Elizardo Sanchez is a smiling hero made of cold and calculating lies, a
false professional who had deceived many; The International Olof Palme
Centre, which had to distance itself from him leaving me responsible for
Cuban Affairs at that reputable establishment, The United Nations,
Amnesty International and all the men and women of good-will who once
trusted his outpourings.
Perhaps the saddest of all such cases though,
is that of Carl Johan Groth, an honourable man of established honesty. A
diplomat of impeccable character, Groth was the last U.N. Special Envoy
on human rights in Cuba. I was present to witness that while the envoy
made titanic efforts to inform the U.N. in the most objective possible
way about Cuba, the misinformation about supposedly persecuted political
activists that Elizardo Sanchez obtained, contained so many untruths,
fables and fake names that they contributed to the eventual failure of
Groths mission.
It is only within a climate of media and diplomatic hostility towards
the Cuban people that Elizardo Sanchez can survive morally. With his
back now squarely turned on honour, only “Freedom House” and other
extreme-right anti-Castro organizations give credence to this defender
of murderers, always when those included on his list belong to gangs
protected by the U.S. and E.U. in their sad war against Cuba.

Elizardo Sánchez
Santacruz, defensor de asesinos
Por René Vázquez Díaz
¿Hace
algunos ejemplos especialmente sucios.
mataron a tiros.
He aquí
asesinadas. Él sabe que cuatro policías fueron
masacrados, pero suaviza el crimen poniendo varios;
cuatro pistolas. Venían a matar cubanos, atacar
instalaciones turísticas, crrear pánico en la población
y reclutar bandas terroristas.
volar a Miami.
honradez, hoy solo Freedom House y algunas
