Personality First and Then Kissing
Most men are concerned about their success with women.
Many believe they need to pass three main tests: kissing, sex, and
personality

A reader sent us the following piece of news: In Madrid they are
offering “sargeo” lessons, this is the name given to the art of
seducing women. Attraction, comfort and seduction are the contents of
this “course” -that may cost up to 300 Euros- based on the Método
Mistery: the instructors suggest that their students learn a number
of mini-routines to show experience when they meet interesting girls as
well as giving evidence of mental strength putting up with their
criticisms and even taking advantage of these.
The item does not say how many men have enrolled or what the results
have been so far. It neither mentions professors's CVs, but it
obviously reflects the existential helplessness of a society used to
standardized processes and seeking shortcuts; as if the complexity of
emotions could be coded in a manual, and a couple of seminars could turn
an insecure man into an infallible conqueror.
This desire to be successful with women (yes, in plural, as if we were
all the same) also worries most Latin men. In September 2012, forum
correspondents Alex, Oz and Leo discussed strategies to conquer women,
and agreed there were three fundamental tests that had to be passed:
kissing, sex, and personality.
At the Sexo Sentido peña [ìnformal
regular gathering for the discussion of selected topics]
at the Universidad de la Habana, and the meetings with young
people all over the country, the subject has come up quite frequently.
So, in mid-January we suggested extending the discussion to our readers.
Many of the opinions received since then coincide with Alex’ proposal –
with a change in the order of the suggested elements- while others offer
new elements. Today we present a summary, but if you wish to read the
comments, you can request them at
sentido@juventudrebelde.cu.
Principles Come First
Most of the replies received listed personality as the first step in the
process. Deyle, a worker at Cujae, admits sex is very important,
but principles must come first: “Knowing what a person is like, what he
thinks, and most of all what its responsibility towards itself and
others is”.
Within this element, many included empathy, coincidence of tastes and
manners as well as the details that strengthen the link, as Abel –a
frequent participant in the peña - calls them. Forum writer
Midaymis talks about the need for consistency and quoted Marti’s thought
that “to be successful a person must be faithful to his own principles
at all times.”
The second position in the ranking was given to kissing. For Aylin who
lives in the capital, if you like his kissing “everything else follows”.
This works for both men and women, but a kiss should not be given
lightly: LilyCH, a fan of this alluring electric shock, says: “How many
people would we be kissing searching for the ideal kiss?”
Forum participant Loli wrote that women today do not care so much about
kissing and received several strong retorts from people convinced that
the art –which can be learned- of kissing (and not only on the mouth)
says a lot about the future lovers, particularly if it takes away your
breath and makes you want more –as Axl Saint- illustrates- because it
keeps alive the nervousness of the first time, and if it is real it
brings the sweet “butterflies in your stomach” described by GotasdeAmor
[LoveDrops]…
but if you give it to someone who does not deserve it, it can bring
bitterness and unhappiness.
Chemistry
and Looks
For Butterflie and Takezo, physical attraction is
essential: “If a woman doesn’t like you, you have lost 50% of the
fight,” says the latter. Then, there is communication, and last
–considering each person’s pace- would be sex.
ABP from Villa Clara agrees. She says that better looking men have an
advantage, but “there are girls that have peculiar tastes and everyone
can find a partner.” She believes intelligence, sensibility and
romanticism should be added to good looks.
For Yonatan -also from Villa Clara- the main thing is love to which
LilyCH adds: “A good communication and transparency to adapt to a
partner, even if some adjustments are needed.”
To complete the formula, several forum writers include other elements:
Emily (16) wants to get flowers; Ñañy argues for perseverance, even if
it all seems like a game; Ernesto stresses the importance of language
and candor; Mya emphasizes cleanliness over beauty; GotasdeAmor supports
the first impression and confidence when expressing ideas; YD misses the
complicity and naiveté of times gone by; Oz enjoys the search for
communicative compatibility; and Alex is certain that good chemistry can
overcome social stereotypes.
Aldeyde from Havana believes life cannot revolve around matters of the
flesh: “We must learn to love each other, miss each other, and need each
other before sleeping together so that sex becomes total fulfillment and
not just pleasure”. Beauty shares this view and prefers the challenge of
an aloof man to lengthen the flirting, the smiles and the looks from the
first moments.
Ricardo does not deny all the aforementioned, but he also talks about
the economic security the suitor may offer. This idea is supported by
ABP and Loli for whom a potential partner must not be a bum and should
know how to be a provider.
Abel seeks attraction in attitude, maanner of speaking, laughing,
listening, looking… a sign that would reach his brain. Material comfort
is usually an enjoyable adornment, but not the essence of a
relationship.
Somehow all these comments coincide in the fact that the way to a
person’s heart takes several steps, and that these may vary from person
to person, because as Bjunior explains: “what may be very important for
one is not necessarily important for another.” He thinks a couple is
like a work of art: “it begins with a couple of brush strokes, and if
the ingredients are well mixed, the result can be amazing.”
Applying the same successful routines may facilitate a conquest at
first, but the best strategy is to discover one’s potential, says Ljr.
This view is supported in the forum by Pepe and confirmed by Lisette who
says nobody acts identically, even if we all have the same goal.
For Butterflie and Yordanka, the time used in seduction is never wasted,
because falling in love is still in fashion. According to TodoRomance
and Otelo, going straight to intercourse is only valid if “relief” is
needed or when paying for sex, but these usually leave unpleasant
physical or moral marks. Besides, what success would we be talking about
in such circumstances?

esas circunstancias?
