EIGHTY YEARS OF CHRIST REDEEMER
The statue of Christ Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, the city considered Brazilian icon and a marvel of the modern world, is celebrating its 80 years. The giant 38 meters high each year receives more than one million tourists. It was inaugurated on October 12, 1931. In 1973 it was declared a historical monument and one of the seven wonders of the world in 2007. The Brazilian engineer Heitor da Silva Costa, was in charge of the project, and artist Carlos Oswald made final design of the statue, which was made by Frenchman Paul Landowski. (Telesur)

La
estatua del Cristo Redentor de Río de Janeiro, considerada ícono de la
ciudad brasileña y una maravilla del mundo moderno, festeja sus 80 años.
La gigantesca obra de 38 metros de altura recibe cada año más de un
millón de turistas. Fue inaugurada el 12 de octubre de 1931. En el año
1973 fue declarada monumento histórico y una de las siete maravillas del
mundo moderno en el 2007. El ingeniero brasileño Heitor da Silva Costa,
fue el encargado del proyecto, y el artista plástico Carlos Oswald
realizó el diseño final de la estatua, que fue confeccionada por el
