August 23, 2011, 18:56 Havana, Aug 23 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Parliament President Ricardo Alarcon, said the issue of racism will be on the agenda at a national conference organized by the Communist Party (CCP) next January.
In an interview published today by the digital site Cubarte, Alarcon said there had been significant advances in the field with the election of the CPC Central Committee last April during the Sixth Congress of the polity.
He referred to President Raul Castro's efforts to rationaly and effectively promote blacks and women, preferably youth to responsible positions.
He (Raul Castro) will not rest until, blackd and the woman actually exercise the full equal rights, said Alarcon.
Asked about the treatment of the racial issue last year in a television program, the legislator called to attention many other TV spots, in newspapers and on the country's education system.
When talking about actions that can make the People's Power National Assembly (Parliament) on racial discrimination, Alarcon said that it requires a systematic control by the 12 standing committees of the institution.
In fulfilling that task, committees must ensure that all agencies and entities of the country properly taken into account ethnic dimension and work to completely eradicate all forms of discrimination, he said.
"I know that the Aponte Commission has established links Aponte us (Parliament) to promote this activity fully," he explained noting that Cubans have a huge debt to the black José Antonio Aponte, who was hanged by the Spanish colonialism in the nineteenth century.
"We're approaching the bicentennial of his hanging. The best way to pay the tribute it deserves is fighting back for equality and solidarity among all Cubans," he said recalling one of the first conspirators for independence.
