www.cenesexualidad.sld.cu)  In 2001, we started attending the project out of conviction and the need to meet. We were very few but we wanted to learn about our realities which only those who lived them knew about.
 
 I remember the first meetings were at my place. One fine day we were told there could be no transvestites in our streets and we all found refuge from this police trans-phobia in CENESEX. Then the group became a sort of shelter, but of course many of us also wanted to study and learn more. 

Since then there have been many achievements. We are now visible in society and there is more understanding, despite of the fact that HIV is still increasing among men who have sex with men; a category which includes us.    

The only alternative so far to stopping the disease is prevention. This is in the thinking of all of us who attend the meetings, even when it’s difficult and some do not want to apply what they have learned.

Our families too began to see us differently, thanks to the meetings CENESEX has arranged, and together we have understood that we should be valued for what we can do as persons regardless of our sexual orientation and gender identity.

We have garnered the support of some government officials and culture representatives who visit our events like Ricardo Alarcón and Rosa Fornés. We have taught HIV prevention, sexuality and other subjects to heterosexual people like couples, neighbors and friends because sometimes even medical professionals are not acquainted with them.

There is still much to do to move ahead. Cuban society is difficult for the fight against homophobia and, therefore, we must persist.
A big kiss now, because Nuestra Belleza Latina is about to begin and, like a real Miss, I’ll pretend to be a juror from my little bed.

Kisses for Mayra; tell her I love her and I’m very grateful to her; the same for Elvia de Dios who was so sweet to me; and for you who are divine.

Say hi to Angeli who always writes to me; to Malú whose everyday work we appreciate so much; to all the girls, especially Olivia and my sister, Diana, whom I miss everyday and wish she were here by my side, because life without her is strange.
 
And that’s all, because I don’t want to be sad. All the best. I love you all. A big kiss from my heart.

·         En el 2001, comenzamos a asistir al proyecto por convicción y por la necesidad de reunirnos, a pesar de ser pocas, para aprender sobre nuestras realidades de las que solo sabíamos lo que vivíamos.

 

Recuerdo que los primeros encuentros fueron en mi casa. Después todas fuimos a refugiarnos al CENESEX por la transfobia policial, que un buen día dijo que no podía haber travestis en nuestras calles. Entonces el grupo se convirtió en un amparo, aunque también somos muchas las que queríamos estudiar y aprender más.
Desde entonces, ha habido muchos logros. Ya la sociedad nos ha visibilizado y muchos se han sensibilizado, a pesar de seguir en aumento el VIH entre hombres que tienen sexo con hombres, en una categoría en la que estamos incluidas.


La única alternativa para detener la enfermedad hasta ahora es la prevención y está en la mente de todas y todos los que asisten a los encuentros, aunque a veces sea difícil o no quieran llevarlo a la práctica sus conocimientos.


Nuestras familias también nos miran con otros ojos, gracias a los encuentros que el CENESEX ha propiciado y hemos entendido juntas que tenemos que nos valorarán por lo que seamos capaces de ser como personas, independientemente de nuestra orientación sexual y nuestra identidad de género.


Hemos logrado que funcionarios del gobierno y personalidades de la cultura nos apoyen y visiten en actividades, como Ricardo Alarcón y Rosa Fornés. Hemos sido profesores de personas heterosexuales como novios, vecinos y amigos a la hora de hacer prevención del VIH, de sexualidad y de otros temas que a veces hasta los profesionales de la medicina desconocen.


Falta mucho por luchar para seguir hacia alante. La sociedad cubana es bastante difícil para luchar contra la homofobia por eso hay que  persistir.


Un besote grande que va a empezar Nuestra Belleza Latina y, como toda una Miss, voy a ser de jurado desde mi camita.


Besos a Mayra. Dile que la quiero y que le tengo que  agradecer mucho. A Elvia de Dios también que conmigo fue un pan. Y a ti que eres divina.


Saluda a Angeli que siempre me escribe, a Malú que tanto hay que agradecerle por su labor diaria. A todas las muchachitas, en especial a Olivia y a mi hermana, Diana, que  todos los días la extraño y quisiera que estuviera a mi lado, porque sin ella la vida me es un poco rara.


Ya, que no quiero estar triste. Felicidades. Las quiero a todas. Un besote de corazón.
