Respecto a lo valioso actual de la música cubana, sería una larga y variada lista, porque en Cuba se hace música de muchas maneras y estilos. Podría decir que en todos hay expresiones muy maduras, tanto en la música clásica, el jazz, la música balilable, la trova o las variantes del hip-hop. Y en este juicio no discrimino a nadie, viva donde viva o piense como piense, porque me estoy refiriendo al talento artístico, a la incuestionable musicalidad de los cubanos. Entre sus experiencias cuenta con la de haber sido diputado del Parlamento (Asamblea Nacional del Poder Popular) cubano. ¿Cuál considera usted su aportación al proceso político cubano durante sus años en la Asamblea y qué opinión le merece esa institución después de haberla conocido desde adentro? Fui diputado durante tres períodos, o sea durante 15 años, y nunca me postulé para eso ni aspiré a serlo, sino que fui elegido por votación popular en asambleas que se iban dando a través de la isla. Aunque no tengo vocación de político, siempre consideré que no aceptar la votación popular era una falta cívica que no me podía permitir. En esos 15 años aprendí como funcionan y como no funcionan muchos aspectos de la vida nacional, problemas que desde afuera uno tiende a simplificar pero que cuando los conoce ve que son mucho más complejos de lo que imaginaba. Aportes no creo haber hecho alguno trascendental, pero en plena Asamblea pedí que el socialismo cubano se entendiera como algo perfectible, o sea no como algo rígido. Hace algo más de dos años, cuando ya me despedía, abogué por sistematizar la asistencia cultural a las prisiones del país. Mi conclusión es que la Asamblea Nacional del Poder Popular es perfectible, igual que dije de nuestro socialismo. Usted se ha expresado en torno a la necesidad de que haya una evolución en el proceso político y social de su país. ¿Qué elementos, en su opinión, debería incluir esa evolución y de qué manera se prodrÍa propiciar? Lo que más rápido desencadenaría un gran cambio en Cuba sería el levantamiento del bloqueo. No creo que sería un cambio de sistema político porque la mayoría del pueblo de Cuba reconoce que el socialismo ha garantizado la justicia social que significan salud y educación gratuitos en las difíciles condiciones de un país del tercer mundo, como el nuestro, para colmo bloqueado. Igualmente sabemos que nos sobra mucho burocratismo y muchas soluciones implementadas en situaciones distantes de la actualidad.
