Stupidity and delirium

It is a universal rule that legislators (and women who are in this position, where ever there is any) enjoy parliamentary immunity, which, too much frequently, grants the right to lie and to say nonsense without blushing. They can even play with other people’s lives and manipulate them before microphones and television cameras with absolute impunity.

The death of a person is always a painful thing and it must be treated with respect. To induce it, want it and later handle it rudely to obtain some benefit is an infamy that deserves repudiation.

That is what has been happening since the lamentable decease, in a hospital of Havana City, of Orlando Zapata, who served a sentence in prison for common crimes without any link with politics: his name was never listed among the so called “dissidents” until the enemies of Cuba managed to use him for their media campaign and turned him with magic crafts into a “conscience prisoner”.

Now, they focus their attention on another person fasting, Guillermo Fariñas, who declared himself in hunger strike, something he has already done on twenty two previous occasions. He did it from his house in Santa Clara, since he is a citizen who is not serving any penal sentence in this moment. He stayed in his house until, in order to save his life and with his and his family’s consent, was taken to a hospital where he receives free medical assistance as any other Cuban citizen.

Professor Hans Kelsen, in several of his texts on philosophy and constitutional law, dismounted the legend about the “Representative Democracy” and the western parliamentary system. For the renowned Austrian, it was just a fictitious regime in which “representation” is pure fiction.

As in every farce, a multiform crowd parades on the anti Cuban stage in a strange tournament worthy of the ancient warning: “The beginning of words in his mouth is stupidity; and the end of his talk, injurious delirium”. (Ecclesiastes, 10-13)

A prominent position is taken by Jerzy Buzek, president of the European Parliament, who stated, on March 18th, “to be seriously worried about the situation of all the political prisoners incarcerated, particularly, Guillermo Fariñas”.

The next day, his countryman Bronislaw Komorwski, from the Polish Parliament, exhorted Cuba “to release all the political prisoners, including Guillermo Fariñas”.

In this side of the ocean, there was no lack of aspirants to snatch the trophy from the Polish. In an Honorable Senate, someone announced that Fariñas “is really on the verge of death”. It is curious that the trained legislators did not realize that Fariñas appeared at the same time making statements and giving interviews to diverse media.

On March 17th, the correspondent of the ANSA News Agency visited him in Santa Clara and wrote – “While he receives four types of sera, dissident Guillermo Fariñas keeps his hunger strike sticking to the telephone… from his bed, with a grey pajamas and covered with a violet blanket… he greets the visitors smiling and holding his left fist up when each of the visitors arrives… he spends great part of the time speaking on telephone with people who call to find out about his condition, watching television and also reading the Granma Journal, the official newspaper of the Cuban Communist Party (PCC) that his mother takes to him”. A nurse assists him permanently.

Three days later, in a conversation with the correspondent of the DPA, Fariñas showed his mood: “Here the medical staff as well as the paramedical one is giving me a treatment of excellence. Remember that I have been hospitalized here in other occasions, in this same hall. They already know me from other hunger strikes”.

That “treatment of excellence” would not be given to anyone in any of the countries where the anti Cuban voices rise today. It is provided to him by the people that resists half a century of a wild economic war that includes the prohibition of having access to any drug or medical equipment coming from the United States, an inhuman policy of which the notorious character is an accomplice. What would be of him if he decided to fast in Washington, in Varsovia or any other place?
