On Saturday November 21, at the DoubleTree Hotel in Miami, the so-called Cuban Liberty Council (CLC) granted Obama’s favorite blogger the pompous “Heroes of Freedom” prize.

To some it might seem just another prize from a wealth of high-flown rewards that the U.S. government, the Prisa Group, Frank Calzón and Carlos Alberto Montaner are desperately sorting out to tickle their new cyber-faced agent. This one is very special, though, since it’s about the recognition Yoani Sánchez receives from the top right-wing extremists and terrorists among the Miami-based anti-Cuban groups.

Upon announcing the granting of this new award to the blogger, the CLC President explained: “It can’t be denied that war is a cyber-confrontation, but that’s in no way a sign that we will renounce popular revolt to topple the Castro dictatorship”. (1)

He also revealed how proud Yoani was when she heard the news: “…about fifteen days before the CLC had asked her if she would accept our highest distinction, and she surprised us all when she said yes and called it ‘a great honor’”.(2)

Also attending the ceremony were leading CLC figures, as well as Carlos Gutiérrez –ex-Secretary of Trade under Bush– the anti-Cuban Rep. Mario Díaz Balart, and Tomás Regalado, the new Mayor of the City of Miami. A truly exclusive audience for such selfish purposes.

Who honors the cyber-mercenary?

The CLC was born in August 2001 as an offshoot of the National Cuban American Foundation (CANF) that Jorge Mas Canosa established in 1992 to launch terrorist actions against Cuba and was then immersed in a process of reforms as a result of the hard blows it took from the U.S. public opinion following its failed attempts to kidnap the child Elián González. Most members of the CANF’s paramilitary wing ended up in the CLC, including Alberto Hernández, Feliciano Foyo, Roberto Martín Pérez and Luis Zúñiga, to name a few.

On October 10, 2001 –barely a month after the 9/11 events– the new organization was officially presented at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables, an event attended by Melquiades [Mel] Martínez, Secretary of Housing during the Bush Administration.

The CLC has played a particularly active part in supporting terrorist Luis Posada Carriles. Some of its leaders, then in the CANF, were involved in Posada’s prison break in Venezuela, his role during the dirty war in Central America, the funding of his terrorist attacks against Cuba in the 1990s, and the organization of the thwarted assassination attempt on Fidel Castro in Panama in the year 2000.

Last May 2, the CLC and other Cuban mob-run groups arranged a “patriotic dinner” in the Big Five club in honor of “the legendary fighter Luis Posada Carriles” (3), attended by the notorious terrorist, known as Latin America’s Osama Bin Laden. “The Apostle [José Martí] said, ‘To honor, honors’, and this is a chance to honor us all”, said the press release to announce the celebration. On August 1, 1997, as Posada Carriles hired Central American mercenaries to plant the bombs in Cuban hotels that killed the young Italian tourist Fabio di Celmo and left others wounded (5), the CANF issued a communiqué blaming the attacks on a supposedly displeased military and coldly declaring that in order to overthrow the Cuban government all means, no matter how violent, were acceptable:

The Cuban people (…) have the right to choose the instruments within their reach (…) Aware of its responsibility toward the Cuban people, the NCAF backs outright and with no holds barred any denunciation, confrontation or act of internal rebellion that takes place in Cuba. (6)

Among the signatories of that statement were Alberto Hernández, Diego Suárez and Ninoska Pérez, the three main organizers of the Saturday soiree in Miami and also the first to promote the Political Action Committee (PAC) “U.S.-Cuba Democracy”, an aggressive Washington lobby in favor of the blockade and the attacks against Cuba. In the last few years, this Committee has handed out around 10 million dollars in Congress to torpedo any effort at normalization of U.S.-Cuba relations.

Yoani’s new social network

Lucrecia Ninoska Pérez Castellón was the life and soul of the evening: she not only emceed the reception, but also made both a video of her heroine of the moment and her debut as a “painter” à la Luis Posada Carriles.

As the mouthpiece of the CANF, Ninoska’s verbal terrorism earmarked “The voice of the Foundation”, always devoted to inciting and fostering terrorism against Cuba and assassination attempts on Fidel. Now, as the spokesperson of the CLC, she talks nonsense on a daily basis through Radio Mambí and a local TV program.

A few months ago she got in a terrible flap on the radio when the popular Cuban singer Paulito FG said he believed in Fidel and made an appeal to boycott his performance. In September she shouted her head off accusing [Colombian rocker] Juanes of being a “communist” for his idea of holding his Peace Without Borders concert in Cuba.

Pérez Castellón was fingered in September 2006 as one of the journalists who took money from the U.S. government’s Cuba Broadcasting Office to make propaganda against the Island while acting on behalf of a private organization. She’s famous for her diatribes against the five Cubans now serving time in U.S. prisons for fighting anti-Cuban terrorism.

She recently leveled fierce criticism on opinion polls which revealed that over 70% of people in Miami opposed the travel restrictions to Cuba, and labeled “stupid” those who called the radio station to voice their support of the said results.

Alberto Marcelino Hernández Hernández, with many years’ experience in terrorism, also took the floor. Together with Mas Canosa and other CANF honchos, he paid 200,000 dollars in bribes to the three Venezuelan judges who “reviewed” the sentence passed on Orlando Bosch for the murder of 73 people in the criminal sabotage against a Cuban jetliner in 1976 and later on played an active role in the plans to help Posada Carriles escape from a prison in Venezuela. Likewise, as CANF vice president, he was the main person responsible for the introduction in Central America of the terrorist infrastructure devised by Posada, whose book Los caminos del guerrero (Paths of the Warrior) sings the praises of Hernández’s “merits”. He took part in the assassination attempts on Fidel Castro during the IV Spanish-American Summit in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, and the Cuban President’s visit to the Dominican Republic in 1998. He was also the one in charge of flying to El Salvador in August 2000 to propose Carriles the organization of an action to kill Fidel Castro in Panama in November that year.

It fell to Diego Suárez, the indescribable “good-natured elderly man” who in August 2001 signed together with Orlando Bosch an appeal published in El Nuevo Herald hailing the destruction of the Cuban Revolution by any means necessary, to give the blogger her award.

For almost two decades, Suárez was an CANF leader. Today he presides over the CLC, where he keeps designing plans to upset the Cuban Revolution.

In 2005, during one of his frequent TV appearances in Miami, he complained about why President Bush wouldn’t launch “a military invasion”, holding that “the Cubans here are ready to join the Marines”.

Some weeks ago, Diego Suárez made a guest appearance in “Ultima Palabra”, the TV program hosted by Ninoska, and said that Obama was wrong to have lifted the travel ban and eased the restrictions on Cuban-American remittances, since his decision will cause a huge exodus of Cubans in the coming months.…?

Let’s not lose sight of the fact that the U.S. government has stated a large-scale migration from Cuba would be deemed a national security issue which Washington could even respond to with an invasion.

In statements to the media last week, Suárez prided himself on his stance toward Cuba, saying his favorite blogger should have asked an eighth question in the list she allegedly sent to President Obama: “Why Honduras and not Cuba?” (sic) (7).

It’s the same reactionary way of thinking of those who took to the streets in Miami in March 2003 shouting “Iraq now, Cuba is next”.

That’s the sort of people who gave Yoani Sánchez the new prize she considers “a great honor”, those who speak of a “freedom” based on assassination attempts, bombings, military invasions, and the most ferocious blockade. Yet, it should not sound so foreign to those who believe many people still “yearn for the night of the long knives”. (8)

A naïve, unhappy blogger or a conscious instrument of aggression against Cuba?

El sábado 21 de noviembre, en el Hotel Double Tree de Miami, el llamado Consejo por la Libertad de Cuba condecoró a la bloguera favorita de Obama con el rimbombante galardón “Héroes de la Libertad”

Pudiera parecer, para algunos, uno más entre la epidemia de premios inflados que el gobierno norteamericano, el Grupo Prisa, Frank Calzón y Carlos Alberto Montaner gestionan desesperadamente para blindar a su nueva agente con rostro cibernético. Sin embargo, este es especial. Se trata del reconocimiento que le da a Yoani Sánchez el ala más extremista y terrorista de los grupos anticubanos de Miami.

Al anunciar la concesión del nuevo galardón a la bloguera, el Presidente de la organización anticubana lo justificó diciendo: “No puede desconocerse que la guerra es una confrontación cibernética. Y eso no quiere decir de ninguna manera que renunciemos a la insurrección popular para derrocar a la dictadura de los Castro”.(1)

El Presidente del CLC reveló también a la publicación el orgullo con que la condecorada recibió la noticia: “…hacía cómo quince días que el CLC había consultado con la bloguera si aceptaría recibir la máxima condecoración del CLC y ella sorprendió al decir que sí, calificándolo como ‘un gran honor”.(2)

En la ceremonia de condecoración estuvo la plana mayor del CLC y el ex secretario de Comercio de la administración Bush, Carlos Gutiérrez; el congresista anticubano Mario Díaz Balart y el nuevo alcalde de Miami, Tomás Regalado. Selecta audiencia para tan interesados propósitos.

¿Quién le rinde honores a la cibermercenaria?

El Consejo por la Libertad de Cuba nació en agosto de 2001 como una escisión de la Fundación Nacional Cubano Americana, en plan de reforma entonces tras los duros golpes que sufrió por el frustrado secuestro del niño Elián González y las críticas de la sociedad norteamericana. Al CLC fueron a parar las mayoría de los elementos del ala paramilitar de la Fundación, creada en 1992  por Jorge Mas Canosa para ejecutar acciones terroristas contra Cuba, entre ellos  Alberto Hernández, Roberto Martín Pérez, Feliciano Foyo, Luis Zúñiga y otros.

La presentación oficial de la nueva organización, tuvo lugar apenas un mes después de los atentados contra las Torres Gemelas,  el 10 de octubre de 2001, en el Biltmore Hotel de Coral Gables. Allí estuvo presente el Secretario de Vivienda de la Administración Bush, Melquiades Martínez.

El CLC ha sido una de las organizaciones más activas en el apoyo al terrorista Luis Posada Carriles. Varios de sus directivos, entonces en la FNCA,  estuvieron involucrados en la fuga de Posada desde la prisión en Venezuela, en sus andanzas durante la guerra sucia en Centroamérica, en el financiamiento a los atentados terroristas que organizó contra Cuba en la década del 90 y en la organización del frustrado atentado contra Fidel en Panamá en el 2000.

El pasado 2 de mayo, el CLC y otras organizaciones de la mafia anticubana, organizaron una “cena patriótica” en el Club Big Five en homenaje “al legendario combatiente Luis Posada Carriles” (3), a la que asistió el célebre terrorista, conocido como el Osama Bin Laden de América Latina. “El Apóstol dijo: ‘Honrar honra’ y esta es una oportunidad para honrarnos todos”- decía la nota de prensa que convocaba al encuentro. (4).

Cuando Posada Carriles enviaba mercenarios centroamericanos a colocar bombas en los hoteles cubanos, que provocaron la muerte al joven turista italiano Fabio di Celmo y heridas a otras personas (5), la Fundación Nacional Cubano Americana emitía un comunicado el 1 de agosto de 1997,  en el que achacaba los actos terroristas a supuestos militares descontentos y afirmaban fríamente que todos los medios, tan violentos como fuesen, son admisibles para un cambio de gobierno en Cuba:

El pueblo cubano (…) tiene derecho a escoger los instrumentos que se encuentren a su alcance(…) la Fundación Nacional Cubano-Americana, consciente de su responsabilidad con el pueblo cubano, respalda sin ambages ni reparos cuanta denuncia, enfrentamiento o acto de rebeldía interna se realice. (6)

Entre los firmantes de esa declaración estaban Alberto Hernández, Diego Suárez y Ninoska Pérez, los tres organizadores principales de la velada sabatina en Miami.

Estos personajes son también los principales impulsores del Comité de Acción Política (PAC) “Democracia EEUU-Cuba”, que realiza una agresiva actividad de lobby en Wahington para mantener la política de bloqueo y las acciones agresivas contra Cuba. Este Comité ha repartido en los últimos años unos 10 millones de dólares entre miembros del Congreso con el objeto de obstaculizar cualquier normalización de las relaciones entre Cuba y Estados Unidos.

La nueva red social de Yoani

La vedette en la jornada de homenaje a Yoani fue Lucrecia Ninoska Pérez Castellón, quien actuó de presentadora, elaboró un video de su heroína del momento y debutó como “pintora”, a la usanza de Luis Posada Carriles.

Ninoska fue la portavoz de la Fundación Nacional Cubano Americana y ahora lo es del CLC. Su terrorismo verbal marcó el sello de la “La voz de la Fundación”, desde donde se dedicó a incitar y apoyar la realización de acciones terroristas contra Cuba y los intentos de asesinato contra Fidel. Ahora desbarra todos los días por Radio Mambí y también en un programa televisivo local.

Hace unos meses se puso histérica en la radio contra el popular cantante cubano Paulito FG por declarar que creía en Fidel, y pidió el boicot contra el músico. En septiembre se desgañitó acusando a Juanes de “comunista” por venir a dar su Concierto por la Paz en Cuba.

Pérez Castellón fue denunciada en septiembre de 2006 como una de las periodistas que recibieron abundante dinero de la Oficina de Transmisiones hacia Cuba del gobierno norteamericano, para hacer propaganda contra la Isla, mientras se presentaba como representante de una organización privada. Sus ataques contra los Cinco cubanos presos en Estados Unidos por combatir el terrorismo anticubano han sido proverbiales.

Recientemente atacó virulentamente a las encuestadoras que revelaron que más del 70 por ciento de los residentes en Miami estaban a favor de que los norteamericanos viajen a Cuba y calificó como “estúpidos” a quienes llamaron a la emisora radial para apoyar los resultados de la encuesta.

Alberto Marcelino Hernández Hernández fue también uno de los oradores del acto. Su trayectoria terrorista es profusa.  Hernández organizó con Mas Canosa y otros directivos de la FNCA el soborno con 200 mil dólares de los tres jueces venezolanos que “revisaron” la sentencia contra Orlando Bosch por el asesinato de 73 personas en el criminal sabotaje contra un avión de Cuba en 1976. También participó activamente en la fuga de Posada Carriles de una prisión en Venezuela.

Como vicepresidente de la FNCA, Hernández fue el primer responsable del establecimiento en América Central de la infraestructura terrorista montada en Centroamérica por Posada, quien resalta sus “méritos” en el libro Los caminos del guerrero. Participó en la organización de los  intentos de asesinato del Presidente cubano Fidel Castro durante los días de la IV Cumbre Iberoamericana, en Cartagena de Indias, Colombia y durante la visita la República Dominicana en 1998. Fue además la persona encargada de ir a El Salvador a proponerle a Carriles, en agosto de 2000, la organización de un atentado contra Fidel Castro en Panamá en noviembre de ese propio año.

El inefable Diego Suárez, un “anciano bonachón” que en agosto del 2001 firmaba junto a Orlando Bosch un llamamiento publicado en El Nuevo Herald en el que propugnaba el uso de cualquier medio para derrocar la Revolución Cubana, fue el encargado de presentar el premio a la bloguera.

Suárez fungió por casi dos décadas como uno de los directivos de la FNCA. Ahora es el presidente del CLC, desde donde continúa organizando planes para destruir la Revolución Cubana.

En el 2005, durante una de sus frecuentes apariciones en las televisores locales de Miami, se quejaba del por qué el Presidente Bush no preparaba “una invasión militar” y decía que “los cubanos estamos listos para ir con los marines”. Vea el video a continuación:
