The intellectual emptiness of Human Rights Watch

HUMAN Rights Watch (HRW) is again going too far against the Cuban Revolution in a vain attempt to sully the island’s impeccable work for the dignity and authentic human rights of more than 11 million Cubans.

This past Wednesday, November 18, in a tiresome reiteration of its anti-Cuba message, HRW accused the island of not improving its "conduct" in the context of human rights, and even afforded itself the luxury of noting — lying even more — that it has worsened in some cases.

The worst case of blindness is not wanting to see, and this is an evident attempt to rescue a diminished and discredited internal counterrevolution, elevated and funded by the anti-Cuban lobby in the U.S. government – in particular the Miami mafia – which is steadily becoming more irrelevant and dependent on U.S. taxpayer funds.

Thus, resorting to science fiction, and with its perennial front of a non-governmental organization, HWR drew up a long "report" in which it again attempts to depict the Cuban government as a systematic repressor and creator of an environment full of terror, as if our streets were occupied by military forces and our citizens, without any rights whatsoever, were being brutally lashed.

It does not even have any imagination. It is the same script that we’ve seen many times now over the last five decades, with the unwholesome purpose of justifying the failed and genocidal economic, commercial and financial U.S. blockade of our country, a policy that the UN General Assembly condemned for the 18th consecutive time this past October with 187 votes.

The HRW, with the servile José Miguel Vivanco at its head, the righter of wrongs against anything that whiffs of independence from the United States (it acts in the same way against Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador, Nicaragua and Cuba) and the spokespeople of the Miami mafia, are desperate and frustrated in face of a Cuba that is increasingly more solid, despite the blockade and hurricanes, with growing international prestige, which has propitiated the advance of a tendency within U.S. society of calling for a change in policy toward Havana. This is exemplified by the initiative with bipartisan backing introduced by Richard Lugar (Indiana) to eliminate all restrictions on travel to Cuba by U.S. citizens.

The HRW’s subordination to yanki policy is such that it couldn’t care less about the fact that this past February 5, Cuba successfully presented its report to the UN Human Rights Council’s Universal Periodic Review, where it received overwhelming recognition for its human and social project and its efforts in this sphere.

Of course, that time in Geneva it became evident that, in the context of an exercise with universal participation and of an objective nature, the United States could not overcome the will of others through pressure, nor with the craven collaboration of organizations like the HRW. Cuba’s truth could not be silenced.

A group of 60 delegations, of the 104 that were registered, spoke during an interactive dialogue on that occasion, and 51 of them acknowledged the efforts and results of our country in terms of promoting and protecting human rights.

Cuba’s achievements in the area of economic, social and cultural rights merited their overwhelming backing. The universal coverage, gratuity and excellence of Cuba’s health and education systems elicited reiterated praise.

The HRW knows, despite its manifest dependence on yanki imperialist policy, that Cuba has a dignified and very extensive record in terms of cooperation with all human rights mechanisms. Our nation as a state is party to 41 of the most important treaties in this sphere and has historically cooperated with human rights mechanisms that are applied universally and without discrimination.

As a way of defending his vassalage, the Chilean José Miguel Vivanco, "director of the Americas division" of HRW, is resorting to the well-worn presentation of being the victim under attack, because the Latin American governments that comprise the ALBA do not like to be criticized.

Vivanco wants to resort to this shady subject because he knows that he has a lot of dirty laundry, as has been exposed by our colleague Jean Guy Allard, in reference to his dubious relations with the fauna of Washington’s Capitol Hill linked to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), the most recalcitrant Venezuelan "petit yankis," and the Cuban-American mafia, and of course, his close ties with Reporters Sans Frontières and other "international" organizations, whose ties with the CIA are established.

These are not attacks, but truths that sting. That is how those servile individuals are.

Human Rights Watch (HRW) una vez más carga tintas contra la Revolución Cubana en un vano intento por manchar la impecable obra de la Isla a favor de la dignidad y los verdaderos derechos humanos de más de 11 millones de cubanos.

Este miércoles HRW, en una cansona reiteración del mensaje anticubano, acusó a la Isla de no mejorar su "comportamiento" en materia de derechos humanos e incluso, se da el lujo de señalar, mintiendo aún más, que en algunos casos ha empeorado.

No hay peor ciego que el que no quiere ver y es evidente el intento de tirarle el salvavidas oxigenante a una menguada y desprestigiada contrarrevolución interna, aupada y pagada por el lobby anticubano en el gobierno de EE.UU., y en particular de la mafia de Miami, que cada año se torna más irrelevante y dependiente del dinero del contribuyente norteamericano.

Así, acudiendo a la ciencia ficción, y con su sempiterno disfraz de organización no gubernamental, HRW elaboró un largo "informe" en el que pretende presentar una vez más al gobierno cubano como un represor sistemático y creador de un clima penetrante de terror, como si nuestras calles estuviesen tomadas por fuerzas militares y los ciudadanos sin contar con derecho alguno fuesen azotados brutalmente.

No tienen ni imaginación. Es el mismo guión que ya hemos visto muchas veces a lo largo de estas cinco décadas y que persigue el malsano propósito de justificar el fracasado y genocida bloqueo económico, comercial y financiero norteamericano contra nuestro país, política que por décimooctava ocasión consecutiva condenó abrumadoramente la Asamblea General de la ONU, a finales de octubre pasado por 187 votos a favor.

HRW, con el genuflexo José Miguel Vivanco al frente, hacedor de entuertos contra todo lo que huela a independencia frente a Estados Unidos (es lo mismo contra Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Cuba) y los personeros de la mafia de Miami, se encuentran desesperados y frustrados ante una Cuba cada vez más sólida, a pesar del bloqueo y los huracanes, con un creciente prestigio internacional, lo cual ha propiciado el avance de una tendencia en la sociedad norteamericana que pide un cambio de política hacia La Habana, que se ejemplifica en la iniciativa, con respaldo bipartidista, del congresista Richard Lugar (Indiana) para eliminar todas las prohibiciones de viaje a la Isla de los ciudadanos estadounidenses.

La subordinación de HRW a la política yanki es de tal naturaleza que desconoce olímpicamente que el 5 de febrero pasado Cuba presentó con éxito su informe ante el mecanismo de Examen Periódico Universal del Consejo de Derechos Humanos, donde recibió un abrumador reconocimiento a su obra humana y social y al desempeño en esta esfera.

Claro, esta vez en Ginebra se puso de manifiesto que, en el contexto de un ejercicio de participación universal y de naturaleza objetiva, Estados Unidos no puede doblegar voluntades mediante presiones, ni aun con la secuaz colaboración de organizaciones como HRW. La verdad de Cuba no pudo ser silenciada.

Un grupo de 60 delegaciones, de las 104 que se inscribieron, hizo uso de la palabra en el diálogo interactivo de aquella ocasión, en la cual 51 reconocieron los esfuerzos y resultados de nuestro país en materia de promoción y protección de derechos humanos.

Los éxitos obtenidos por Cuba en el área de los derechos económicos, sociales y culturales merecieron un abrumador respaldo. La cobertura universal, la gratuidad y la excelencia de los sistemas cubanos de salud y educación concitaron reiterados elogios.

HRW sabe, a pesar de su manifiesta dependencia a la política imperial yanki, que Cuba tiene un digno y muy amplio historial en materia de cooperación con todos los mecanismos de derechos humanos. Nuestra nación es Estado Parte en 41 de los tratados más importantes en esta esfera y ha cooperado, históricamente, con los mecanismos de derechos humanos que se aplican de forma universal y sobre bases no discriminatorias.

El "Jefe para las Américas" de HRW, el chileno José Miguel Vivanco residente en Washington, busca como recurso para defender su vasallaje, la acostumbrada presentación del víctima y de que es atacado, porque a los gobiernos latinoamericanos que forman el ALBA no les gustan que los critiquen.

Vivanco quiere acudir a esa materia oscura, porque sabe que tiene muchos trapos sucios, como lo ha desnudado nuestro colega Jean Guy Allard, al mencionar sus dudosas relaciones con la fauna del Capitolio de Washington vinculada a la Agencia Central de Inteligencia (CIA), los más recalcitrantes "pitiyanquis" venezolanos y con la mafia cubano americana, y, por supuesto, sus estrechos lazos con Reporteros Sin Fronteras y con otras organizaciones "internacionales", cuya vinculación con la CIA está ya establecida.

No son ataques, sino verdades que pican. Así son esos genuflexos.
