Journalist Ricardo Potts, who lives overlooking the Malecon, sends these photos a message:

Here you have some other pics. The rebuilding of the Malecon is advanced. As you can see in the pic, the avenue is clean of debris but no vehicle circulation yet. The chunks from the wall have been located in one of the side streets, they moved them with a caterpillar and later will use a crane to load them into trucks. It must be a big crane, because the chunks are HUGE, as you can see.

A friend who lives in Vedado near the Malecon called me and said that this time the flooding surpassed the marks leaved by the famous "storm of the century" back in 94. She lives in a first floor, and said that the water was almost at the level of her balcony.

Today government workers gave more food relieve to the people who live in the area; canned meat and fish, spaghetti, rice, beans, potatoes, bread, eggs, bottled water and orange refreshments. We have to keep in mind that ir was given for FREE to all the families in the area, including the Malecon, the side streets and San Lazaro Avenue, which runs parallel to Malecon. And this avenue is 7 kms long, running from La Punta (in front of the Morro Castle) to the Almendares River tunnel. So, it means they are feeding THOUSANDS of families who live there.
