Like in the XIX century, a Cuban journalist has been hand writing love letters by commission for 15 years. She is convinced that even in the computer era "people have not lost faith" in them. This was reported in the press this Friday.  "A love letter is something everybody needs (…) I always think about the person who is going to receive it, in the emotion or the relief that person will feel", she pointed out. Liudmila Quincose, age 34, decided to open a clerkship in her house in Sancti Spíritus (center of Cuba) in 1994 In the beginning she thought the idea was laughable, but when clients began to arrive – a month after she hung up a sign [at her door] - she realized people were "in great need to communicate", she told Bohemia (a weekly publication). The "easier ones are those people send to tell another person how much they love them", and "the most difficult [to write] are those commissioned when a couple has had a disagreement", Quincose explains. She said she has lost count of "how many" she has written in 15 years and that she doesn't consider this strange occupation as "a way to earn a living."  "If they have 5 pesos (25 cents of a dollar) they pay me, but the ones I answer, which are more than those I sell, are completely free", explained the woman whose clerkship fulfills requests from about 20 countries.  In time "Clerkship Dollz" became a community project and organizes exhibitions, book presentations and even an international love letter competition.  Quincose says “she envies the old scribes" for the way in which they "drew their letters" and "the drawings they made of their signatures."  "Their letters were beautiful, I only write in a special paper", she said. Al inicio la idea le pareció jocosa, pero cuando comenzaron a llegar clientes -un mes después de colgado el anuncio- se percató de que había “mucha necesidad de comunicación”, según sus declaraciones al semanario Bohemia. Las cartas “más fáciles son las que se regalan para decirle a otra persona cuánto se le quiere”, y “las más difíciles son cuando las parejas están peleadas”, explica Quincose, que perdió la cuenta de “cuántas” ha redactado en 15 años y no asume el raro oficio como “un medio de vida”. “Si tienen 5 pesos (25 centavos de dólar) me los pagan, pero las que respondo, que son más que las que vendo, son totalmente gratis”, explicó la mujer, cuya escribanía atiende pedidos de unos 20 países. La “Escribanía Dollz” se convirtió con el tiempo en un proyecto comunitario, que organiza exposiciones de pintura, presentaciones de libros y hasta un concurso internacional de cartas de amor.
