League plans broad range of summer activities

It
will be a season devoted to recreation as much as to production and
cultural enrichment.
Dedicated by
the Young Communist League (UJC) to the 50th anniversary of the Cuban
Revolution, our summertime will give us the opportunity to step up
creativity and boost the will of all Cuban forces to make the coming
months brim with joy, leisure pursuits and peace of mind, regardless of
the challenges facing the island and the rest of the world.
This season will be devoted not only to much-needed recreation but also
to provide spaces we can use to reinforce our knowledge and make us
culturally richer, since we’ll have days marked as much by recreational
activities as by our contribution to production, with special emphasis
on everything that extols our best patriotic and spiritual values.
Still, we must not overlook the fact that we’ll be under the effects of
both the world capitalistic crisis and Cuba’s current and future
measures and efforts to counter the hardship caused by a globalized
planet and preserve the major achievements of our Revolution and
socialism.
It’s important to understand why we must encourage saving and making the
most of our resources, foster our initiative and become well aware that
we have to do things right, taking into account our objective situation
and making a better use of paramount bodies like our People’s Councils
and municipal bodies.
Ranking high on the UJC’s list of purposes for this summer are plans to
streamline the activity of both the Pioneer Students Taskforce (FAPI)
and the Student Labor Brigades (BET) and get youth summer camps across
the island ready to deal with production and recovery work, keeping in
mind the importance of mobilizing only as many hands as every territory
needs.
There are plans as well to help children and teenagers consolidate and
improve their knowledge through projects to learn more about History and
develop reading habits, as this is a proper time to reflect on the
world’s present-day problems, capitalism’s economic and financial
crisis, and the shortage of foodstuffs and other natural resources.
Likewise, other organizations and institutions will do their bit through
a number of ideas to promote healthy recreation, including book
launches, campsites, dancing parties, film festivals, sports
competitions, contests to reintroduce traditional games, programs to
upgrade knowledge of Cuban history based on museum tours and day trips
to national landmarks, summer courses, etc.
‘All for the Revolution’ will be the motto to brighten up this summer,
when we’ll have projects like, for instance, The Book Evening, to
be held in every provincial capital and the Isle of Youth on July 3, the
first day of the season. On the following day, Cuba will host Meeting
with History, a conference that includes visits to significant sites
and museums and movie presentations.
On Sunday, July 5, every municipality will hold the Salsa Dance Troupe
Festival, and from July 6 thru 12 there will be a nationwide productive
work conference called My Contribution to the Revolution.
Summer has come and brought with it more than a few challenges, but Cuba
certainly counts on the ability and initiative to overpower them using
its wealth of human resources and strong institutions, whose foremost
objective is to secure our people’s well-being and happiness.

En esta etapa de verano que la Unión de Jóvenes Comunistas dedica al aniversario 50 del triunfo de la Revolución Cubana, la creatividad se convierte en palabra clave en la voluntad de tensar todas las fuerzas del país para que los meses estivales sean de alegría, esparcimiento y tranquilidad, a pesar de los desafíos que viven la Isla y el mundo.
Será una temporada que no solo pondere las opciones recreativas, siempre tan necesarias, sino también los espacios con los cuales afianzar conocimientos y acrecentar la cultura. Serán días signados por el esparcimiento, pero también por el aporte en lo productivo, con especial énfasis en todo lo que enaltezca lo mejor de los valores patrios y espirituales.
Es imposible soslayar que los meses próximos estarán marcados por los efectos de la crisis mundial capitalista, y por todos los esfuerzos y ajustes que Cuba realiza y seguirá emprendiendo para asumir los embates de un planeta globalizado, y para mantener las conquistas esenciales de la Revolución, del socialismo nuestro.
Es importante la comprensión sobre la necesidad del ahorro y el uso racional de los recursos. Resulta vital multiplicar la iniciativa y el deseo de hacer cosas a tenor de las condiciones objetivas, y ponderar espacios cardinales como el Consejo Popular y el municipio.
Entre los principales propósitos que animan a la UJC para esta temporada, está organizar el trabajo de las Fuerzas de Acción Pioneril (FAPI), de las Brigadas Estudiantiles de Trabajo (BET), y de los campamentos para jóvenes en toda la Isla, para tareas productivas y de la recuperación, sin obviar la importancia de movilizar solo los brazos necesarios en cada territorio.
Otras motivaciones tienen que ver con que niños y jóvenes afiancen y acrecienten conocimientos; con la promoción de la Historia; y con defender espacios para la lectura. Son momentos de reflexionar sobre los dilemas que hoy sufre el mundo; sobre la crisis económica y financiera global del capitalismo, sobre la escasez de alimentos y otros recursos naturales.
Se suman las acciones que organismos e instituciones llevarán adelante y que incluyen múltiples iniciativas que apuntan a la promoción de una recreación sana.
Entre estas se cuentan presentaciones de libros, disfrute del campismo, bailables, muestras cinematográficas, práctica de deportes, rescate de juegos tradicionales, conocimiento de historia patria, incluyendo visitas a museos y excursiones a sitios donde ocurrieron hechos relevantes, cursos de verano, entre otras.
Todo por la Revolución es el concepto que anima a este verano entre cuyas actividades centrales se incluye La noche de los libros, que tendrá lugar en todas las cabeceras provinciales y en la Isla de la Juventud este 3 de julio, momento que marca el inicio de la temporada. Al día siguiente el país será escenario del Encuentro con la Historia, jornada que concibe recorridos por rutas de especial significado, visitas a museos y cine-debates.
El domingo 5 de julio, en todos los municipios se hará el Festival de Ruedas de Casino. Y del 6 al 12 del mismo mes, se desarrollará a lo largo y ancho del país la Jornada de esfuerzo productivo Mi aporte por la Revolución.
Cuba llega a este verano en medio de múltiples desafíos, pero superior a ellos es la capacidad para superarlos, con la riqueza e iniciativa de sus recursos humanos y la unidad y solidez de las instituciones, cuyo objetivo esencial es promover el bienestar y la felicidad de nuestro pueblo.
