Pregnancy has to be accepted as a natural
process. |
CAMAGÜEY.
A sick baby is a family odyssey. Mom, dad, grandparents and even
pets in the house continue to be watchful as long as the child
does not return to normal. Also neighbors, friends and
acquaintances gather together around the event. Everyone
believes they have the perfect formula to counter the infant's
discomfort.
It is a watchfulness that begins when the couple decides to
conceive and shares the news at home. After the pregnancy,
birth, pre-school stage... many people remain concerned,
sometimes unconsciously, because of tradition, trying to give
the most accurate advice for each doubtful circumstance.
Why they cry, how to breastfeed them, how to prepare their food,
what to do for a fever, are some of those questions for which
generous answers always appear from up the sleeve or under the
apron of older people, but also in books published on the topic,
like Healthy Pregnancy, Healthy Baby, from the Camagüeyan
publishing house Ácana, recommendations for approaching the
universe of maternity and paternity before, during and after
childbirth.
Many suggestions, endorsed with great professionalism in this
timely book, are well-known throughout popular lore and are
indebted to those thousands of tips ranging from how to know the
sex of the fetus, to how to wash their clothes better.
For that reason, Doctor Manuel Roberto Oliva Palomino, Grade II
Specialist in Pediatrics, and Teresita Isabel Cabrera Martínez,
BA in Social and Occupational Rehabilitation are not proposing
to overturn the traditional method of pursuing parenting in our
homes, rather they help with new practical suggestions for
addressing everyday problems.
Healthy pregnancy... has been created as a book of
metamorphosis, not only because it assumes gestation, labor,
childbirth and development as a continuous process, but also
because it was written as a useful tool for positively
addressing each one of these stages of everyday life in the home
and neighborhood.
It also has the merit of not being a message just for women, but
one that embraces the idea of the influence of fatherhood in the
proper development of every child and the security which that
support offers for future mothers.
A baby for a Cuban woman
By tradition, each family has its own recipes for child-rearing
conforming to the customs that experience dictates to them, but
for many who strive and even make it so, they are not always
prepared for the arrival of a baby.
"In many households there are false or limited beliefs which
prevent the acceptance of pregnancy as a natural process and one
which attenuates the quality of this phenomenon", emphasizes
Teresita Cabrera. For that reason, the book does not agree with
those assumptions rooted in the family core for generations, but
it proposes an openness to advice from others, as long as it is
expressed intelligently and has the sincere and true interest of
ensuring the best welfare of each child born.
And it is because, without denying the right of grandmothers and
grandfathers to in good faith advise the "new parents", it is
quite true that some hide behind those prerogatives to
deliberately criticize modern child-rearing, creating confusion
and even resentment in young minds.
"There are still families where pregnancy is assumed to be an
illness and not a natural process that requires care, or denies
breastfeeding as a primary means of mother-child communication
in addition to excellent nourishment", affirms Doctor Oliva.
"Equally, unnecessary over-protection and nutrition mistakes are
common during the first years of life, which demonstrate that,
without disparaging the role of the family, new mechanisms, like
this book, are needed to guide the couple."
Another purpose of the authors from Agramonte is to reveal
taboos which persist around pregnancy and childbirth that
inhibit a happy conclusion to both: "we try to interpret, from a
scientific point of view, everything that revolves around
motherhood without the necessity of resorting to ostentatious
economic formulas", explained Oliva.
Women must learn to take care of themselves at home, knowing the
discomforts associated with pregnancy and ways to avoid them, in
addition to the false concepts about nutrition at this stage,
insist the experts.
They also offer helpful advice for achieving successful
breastfeeding, care and hygiene of the breasts and nipples for
postpartum women, the necessary sunbathing of this area and the
correct use of bra adjusters in order to avoid the pain that an
increased volume of the breasts generates during this period.
Researchers Oliva Palomino and Teresita Cabrera also recommend
the practice of certain exercises three times a week throughout
pregnancy. Prior to doing this, they suggest consulting the
attending physician. They especially recommend walking and
swimming.
Ask up front
S.I.: I have a friend who has been in my life for more than
seven years, since eighth grade. When I was in the ninth, he
declared his feelings for me. I felt so confused that my
immaturity made me reject him, even though my feelings were
mutual. Afterwards we too distance from each other. Recently we
reunited again. He had just been cheated on in his former
relationship. Despite the time, I realized that my feelings have
not changed. I do not know what to do. I am afraid of being
rejected for communicating it to him. Advise me... I am 19 years
old and he is 24.
His new approach occurs after his amorous deception. What does
he expect from you? What led him to return now? With regard to
you, what happens when you are facing this man who does not
confuse you? What is right for you? These questions can shape
the conversation topics between you.
You already lost the possibility of loving him once. You could
not acknowledge your feelings or your confusion to him. You
preferred to reject him and thus avoiding all controversy. For
his part, he chose to distance himself without probing further.
Now you have a second opportunity, but there are always fears
and uncertainties. You cannot know beforehand his reaction.
Given the doubts, all that is left is to choose a path: you let
the opportunity pass without knowing his response or you
confront him with your fears until you have clarified his
position.
Words are not the only form of human communication. Accompanying
them are gestures, glances, body posture, actions, tone of voice
and even silences. All this can provide you with information
about his interest toward you.
For some reason this re-encounter occurred. The other time you
distanced yourselves in the face of the first obstacles. Now you
have the opportunity to confront your passions and fears. It is
time to talk until convincing yourselves and to act until
satiating yourselves. With lucidity, with learning from the
previous experience. The dice are on the table. Decide the next
move.

A
new manner of selling condoms has become fashionable in the
capital since the end of 2008: automatic dispensers, so far
located in 11 strategic points in the municipalities of Plaza of
the Revolution and Central Havana.
As explained to Sex Sense by Dr. Luis Enrique Bueno, coordinator
of the Condom Section of the National Center for Prevention of
STDs / HIV / AIDS, these devices are part of a pilot plan to
study the effectiveness of this marketing system under the
conditions in our country, and based on their results, to extend
the experiment to other provinces in the near future.
The brands of condoms available are the same as those that are
sold for 15 cents in pharmacies, cafeterias, discos, university
residences and other points, but in the dispenser it is
necessary to deposit a 20 cent coin per small box (which holds
three condoms) and to follow verbatim several instructions
written on the front of the dispenser.
So far, the dispensers are located in the cafeterias at Águila
and Monte, Reina and Estrella, and the National Cabaret, in
Central Havana; G-Café, La Pelota, Malecón and 25, Centro Vasco,
the University of Havana and Tikoa, in Vedado, and also in the
terminals of ASTRO and La Coubre.

Embarazo y familia

cotidianos.
Embarazo sano...
No sé qué hacer.
No pudiste reconocer tus
