Selling the state one million liters of milk a year is the goal of one hundred Agricultural and Livestock and Credits and Service cooperatives affiliated to a movement that grows bigger and stronger.

COMPONENTS OF THIS MOVEMENT

The National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP) evaluated the attainability of this goal in each sector group. Management and specialists of this study coincide in stating that willingness and disposition are key to attaining the million liters, yet some organizational and material problems have to be solved first.

Taking this into account, each cooperative developed a program. The program includes the type of livestock, type of stud bulls, artificial insemination application, pasture to be sown, number of cows per bull, and the building of rustic mini-dairies using local resources.

Not all [milk cooperatives] have what they need to achieve the million liters, but the investments required to fulfill them are not costly. This has already been proven by the cooperatives in this situation. Sometimes the resources they need are close by. Collective management is what is essential; also, to put into effect agreements and orientations given at the meeting in Camaguey.

There was a very productive interchange in Camaguey province recently between representatives of 85 of the 100 milk cooperatives involved in this venture. Experienced cowboys were optimistic about achieving the goal and the necessary technical skills.

Last year six cooperatives sold one million liters of milk to the State. The one on first was place the Credits and Service Cooperative Niceto Perez of the municipality of Guaimaro. It sold 1,600,000 liters of milk. Now in 2009, at the present rate, there should be 12 millionaire cooperatives. The big jump [in production] will occur, according to ANAP officials, in 2010-2011 due to the new conditions that are being created.

Farmers who requested idle land to develop milk production have also joined this movement. The Agriculture and Sugar Ministries are also part of this movement and have introduced ANAP’s initiative in their production units.

This topic was widely debated at the Agriculture and Forestry Workers Union Congress. The Union adopted this goal and is preparing ways to stimulate and reward outstanding producers.

Iniciativa de cooperativistas favorece producción lechera

La Asociación Nacional de Agricultores Pequeños (ANAP) evaluó en todos los colectivos del sector las posibilidades existentes para suscribir el compromiso. Dirigentes y especialistas encargados del muestreo coinciden en que priman voluntad y disposición de trabajar por el millón, pero antes deben solucionarse algunos problemas organizativos y materiales.

A partir de esos antecedentes se elaboró un programa para cada cooperativa, que incluye el tipo de ganado y de semental, la aplicación de la inseminación artificial, siembra de pastos, las vacas por toro que deben tenerse y la construcción de microvaquerías rústicas mediante el empleo de recursos locales.

Cierto que no todas reúnen lo que el millón de litros exige, aunque tampoco necesitan de costosas inversiones para completar la base material. Así lo han probado las que ya poseen esa condición. A veces los recursos que faltan están cerca. Lo fundamental es la gestión del colectivo y poner en ejecución los acuerdos y orientaciones de un encuentro desarrollado en Camagüey.

Hace poco en la provincia agramontina hubo un provechoso intercambio entre los representantes de 85 de las 100 cooperativas involucradas en esta iniciativa. Experimentados vaqueros se mostraron optimistas con los resultados futuros y el rigor técnico que debe acompañarlos.

El pasado año fueron seis las cooperativas que vendieron al Estado un millón de litros de leche, encabezadas por la de Créditos y Servicio Niceto Pérez, del municipio de Guáimaro, que suministró 1 600 000 litros. Aunque este 2009, según el ritmo actual, deben ser 12 las cooperativas millonarias, el salto grande ocurrirá —precisan dirigentes de la ANAP— entre el 2010-11 dadas las condiciones que se crean.

A este movimiento se unen campesinos que solicitaron tierras ociosas para el desarrollo de la producción lechera. Los ministerios de la Agricultura y del Azúcar se integran a este movimiento y trasladan la iniciativa calorizada por la ANAP a sus entidades de base.

El tema fue ampliamente debatido en el congreso del Sindicato de Trabajadores Agropecuarios y Forestales, organización que hizo suyo el compromiso y prepara los mecanismos para estimular y premiar a los productores más sobresalientes.
