LAS TUNAS. – In 2008,
women from every Cuban province came forward to join the Voluntary
Female Military Service (SMVF), Maday Iglesias, a member of the National
UJC Bureau in charge of young workers and combatants, informed the
public during an act of recognition for graduating and entering cadets
in Las Tunas.
The youth leader recalled how the important political process made its national debut in 2005 after discussions in the Defense Commission attached to the 8th Congress of the organization. Its discussions centered on alternatives for preserving the conquests of the Cuban social project and guaranteeing the historic continuity of the revolution.
The SMVF has increased the number of women joining on the grassroots level and today the UJC – in close coordination with the FAR – aspires to enroll Cuban women from different sectors in the 2009 course as a tribute to the 25th anniversary of the formation of the Female Antiaircraft Artillery Regiment, celebrated in March. The regiment was originally founded by the late unforgettable Vilma Espín.
From 2006 to the present, young women carrying out their assignment as professional cadres of the Cuban youth vanguard have completed their service of duty in different units of the FAR, including the Border Brigade.
«We should pay attention to these young women from the moment they join the military units. And we should visit and accompany them as time goes by. It is also important to recognize them socially, as much in their homes as in their collectives because their example will inspire others. Likewise, to congratulate their families who have supported this decision», he said.

TUNAS.— Muchachas de todas las provincias cubanas dieron su paso
al frente durante el pasado año 2008 para ingresar por
diferentes vías al Servicio Militar Voluntario Femenino (SMVF),
informó aquí Maday Iglesias, miembro del Buró Nacional de la UJC
a cargo de los jóvenes trabajadores y combatientes, en el acto
de reconocimiento a tuneras que culminaron exitosamente su etapa
de verde olivo y a las que la comenzarán en fecha próxima.La dirigente juvenil recordó que este importante proceso político hizo su debut en el panorama nacional en 2005, a partir de los debates originados en la Comisión de Defensa adscripta al VIII Congreso de la organización. Se trata de una alternativa para preservar las conquistas de nuestro proyecto social y para garantizar la continuidad histórica de la Revolución.
El SMVF ha incrementado sus cifras de ingreso desde la base, y hoy la UJC —en estrecha coordinación con las FAR— aspira a que féminas cubanas de diferentes sectores lo acojan en el curso de 2009, como homenaje al aniversario 25 de la constitución del Regimiento Femenino de Artillería Antiaérea, fundado por la inolvidable Vilma Espín, que se celebra en marzo de este año.
Desde 2006 hasta la fecha, muchachas que se desempeñan como cuadros profesionales de la vanguardia juvenil cubana han cumplido con este deber en diferentes unidades de las FAR, incluyendo la Brigada de la Frontera.
«Debemos atender a estas jóvenes desde el instante de su ingreso a las unidades militares. Y visitarlas y acompañarlas en el transcurso de las etapas. También es importante reconocerlas socialmente, tanto en sus lugares de residencia como en sus colectivos, porque su ejemplo tendrá seguidoras. Igualmente, felicitar a sus familias, que han apoyado esta decisión», expresó.
