French communist league states solidarity with Cuba

PARIS, September 15 (PL).— The French Revolutionary Communist League (LCR) reaffirmed its solidarity with Cuba after the devastation caused by the passing of Hurricanes Gustav and Ike in a period of less than two weeks.

LCR leader and former presidential candidate Olivier Besancenot met with a Cuban delegation that participated in this year’s L’Humanité newspaper celebrations in Paris and highlighted the island’s excellent preparation to deal with two hurricanes.

Nevertheless, he added, despite commendable efforts by the Cuban Civil Defense bodies to minimize damage, seven people died and the country suffered economic loss yet to be entirely quantified.

LCR seizes the opportunity to reaffirm its solidarity with the Cuban people and their demand to lift the criminal blockade imposed by the U.S. on the island for more than four decades, he noted.

Even if Cuba and the U.S. are separated by only 50 kilometers, the U.S. blockade specifically prevents Cuba from purchasing essential items to alleviate the damages suffered by the victims of these hurricanes.

PARÍS, 15 de septiembre (PL).— La Liga Comunista Revolucionaria (LCR) de Francia reiteró hoy su solidaridad por Cuba en razón de los graves daños ocurridos en la Isla por el paso de dos huracanes en forma sucesiva.

En una nota, la LCR, luego de un encuentro de su líder y ex candidato presidencial, Olivier Besancenot, con la delegación cubana que participó aquí en la Feria del diario L Humanité, se destaca la eficacia en la labor de prevención frente a dos grandes ciclones.

De todos modos, añade, pese a que el admirable trabajo de la Defensa Civil cubana minimizó los daños, se contabilizan siete muertes y pérdidas materiales aún por cuantificar.

La LCR aprovecha la ocasión para reafirmar su solidaridad con el pueblo cubano y reclamar una vez más el levantamiento del criminal bloqueo impuesto por Estados Unidos desde hace más de cuatro décadas , puntualiza.

El texto señala que concretamente este bloqueo impide hoy a Cuba adquirir artículos de primera necesidad para paliar el sufrimiento de los damnificados de los huracanes, pese a una distancia de apenas 150 kilómetros que la separa de territorio estadounidense.
