Beijing intends to dazzle the world with its Olympic Games in all aspects including the event venues with China contracting some of the world’s best architects to design 12 new sports installations, remodel 11 others and set up 8 temporary venues. Locals say the construction has been non-stop, day-and-night, come rain, snow or shine.

The Birds Nest is without a doubt the most amazing architectural jewel of the ambitious project and will host the opening and closing ceremonies, track and field competitions and the soccer final.

At a distance, the building appears carefully woven, due to its impressive steel exterior structure that reaches a highpoint equal to a 23-story building.

Not far away is the National Swimming Center or Water Cube, with a beautiful design that uses 1,437 irregular light bubs in its interior. It takes up a surface of eight hectares and its highest point reaches 31 meters. Some 17,000 people will be able to watch the swimming and diving competitions at this venue.

This installation was built with ethylene-tetrafluroethylene and reinforced with lattice-framed steel structure, 99 percent lighter and more efficient than glass to transmit light and save energy.

Equally outstanding are the Laoshan Veledrome, the Basketball Gymnasium, the Shooting Polygon, the Ping Pong center, and the list goes on.

Besides the 31 Olympic venues in the Chinese capital, different disciplines will take place in six other cities: Hong Kong (horseback riding), Quigdao (sailing), and soccer in Shanghai, Tianjin, Shenyang and Qinhuangdao.

A la distancia parece cuidadosamente tejido, por la forma exterior de su impresionante estructura de acero, cuyo punto culminante descuella a una altura equivalente a un edificio de 23 pisos.

No muy lejos se alza el Centro Nacional de Natación o Cubo de Agua, que ostenta un diseño fino y hermoso, en cuyo exterior se aprecian 1 437 burbujas irregulares. Abarca una superficie de ocho hectáreas y su punto más alto roza los 31 metros. Unas 17 000 personas podrán contemplar allí cada jornada de las competencias de natación, saltos y nado sincronizado.

Esta instalación fue construida con etileno tetrafluoretileno y reforzada con una jaula de acero 99% más ligera y eficiente que el vidrio para transmitir la luz y ahorrar energía.

Igual descuellan el Velódromo de Laoshan, el Gimnasio de Baloncesto, el Polígono de Tiro, el Centro de Tenis...

Además de los 31 escenarios deportivos de la capital china, la cita estival prevé la celebración de algunas pruebas en otras seis ciudades: Hong Kong (hípica), Qingdao (velas), Shanghai, Tianjin, Shenyang y Qinhuangdao (fútbol).
