FALLECIÓ ISRAEL CACHAO LÓPEZ.— Una afección renal acabó este fin de semana con la vida del contrabajista cubano Israel López, Cachao, en un hospital de Coral Gables, localidad cercana a Miami, a los 89 años. Fue una de las figuras más importantes del jazz latino durante el siglo pasado y animador de famosas descargas cubanas. Junto a su hermano Orestes participó de la creación del llamado danzón de nuevo ritmo, que derivó en el mambo. En los años sesenta se instaló en Estados Unidos. (SE)¼

Cuban Bass Player Cachao Lopez Dies at 89

Cuban jazz bass player and composer Israel Lopez "Cachao" has died in a Coral Gables, Florida hospital at the age of 89. Cachao was one of the most important figures of Latin Jazz of the 20th century and the promoter of famous Cuban jam sessions. Along with his brother Orestes Lopez, he participated in the creation of a new danzon rhythm which became the mambo. He has resided in the United States since the 1960s.
