Chinese Students Graduate in Cuba

Between the joy of returning home and expectations of future years at university, a group of more than 200 Chinese students completed a year long intensive Spanish language course in Cuba. A ceremony was held for their graduation Monday at the Havana Convention Center.

The majority of the students that went to the Santiago Figueroa School will continue studying at universities in Cuba while the minority returns home to facilitate communication for the Cuban medical personnel working at the Cuba-China Friendship Hospital in Xining. With this, the second such graduation, a total of 396 Chinese have completed the course.

Oberto Sentin, deputy Cuban education minister, highlighted the vocation for studying of the Chinese students, expressed by the “good” and “excellent” grades, good handwriting, and the order and clarity in making new sentences. A total of 134 will continue studying majors in the Spanish language while 58 will study medicine and nursing. These specialties will serve as a bridge between cultures and help achieve harmony and understanding in the convulsed world of today, said Sentin.

China’s ambassador, Zhao Rongxian, spoke with the students and wished them success in the future they have just begun and called on them to continue educating themselves for the strengthening of the country. Likewise, he thanked the Cuban Communist Party, the Ministry of Education and the Cuban people for their efforts in preparing the course.

Li Ling and Wenliang Zhang, two female students, spoke at the graduation on behalf of their classmates. They recognized the efforts of the professors who became their parents and helped them overcome the barriers when facing the new study materials and also their nostalgia for their homeland and families.

Present at the graduation were Rafael Nunez, member of the Communist Party Central Committee; Juan Vela Valdes, minister of Higher Education, and General Moises Sio Wong, president of the Cuba-China Friendship Association.

Alegría por el regreso a su tierra y expectativa por los venideros años universitarios signaron las miradas de más de 200 estudiantes chinos que se graduaron, luego de un año de intenso estudio, del segundo curso de la enseñanza del idioma Español, en el capitalino Palacio de las Convenciones.

Los profesores entregaron a los alumnos los certificados de graduados.

Los graduados, procedentes de la escuela Santiago Figueroa, continuarán estudios superiores en la Isla y una minoría retorna a su país para facilitar la comunicación del personal médico cubano en el Hospital Amistad Cuba China, de Xining. Con esta nueva graduación suman ya 396 titulados.

Oberto Sentín, viceministro de Educación, destacó la vocación por el estudio de los allí reunidos, plasmada en calificaciones de Bien y Excelente, una buena caligrafía, y el orden y limpieza en la construcción de nuevas frases. De ellos, 134 continuarán la licenciatura en Lengua Española, mientras 58 cursarán Medicina y Enfermería, especialidades que sirven de puente entre culturas y ayudan a lograr la armonía y el entendimiento en el convulso mundo actual, señaló.

El embajador de la República Popular China en Cuba, Zhao Rongxian, conversó con los egresados, les deseó éxitos en el camino que recién comienzan y los convocó a seguir preparándose por el fortalecimiento de la patria. De igual forma, agradeció al Partido y Gobierno cubanos, y al Ministerio de Educación por los esfuerzos realizados en la preparación del curso.

Li Ling y Wenliang Zhang, dos de las alumnas integrales, en nombre de los graduados reconocieron el quehacer de los profesores, que se convirtieron en sus padres y les ayudaron a romper las barreras de la inseguridad ante los nuevos contenidos de estudio y la nostalgia por su tierra y sus familias.

En la graduación estuvieron presentes además Rafael Núñez, miembro del Comité Central; Juan Vela Valdés, ministro de Educación Superior, y el general de brigada Moisés Sio Wong, presidente de la Asociación de Amistad Cuba China.
