Effort and bravery are a given when it comes to dealing with problems. The Party has to be on the front line, taking definite steps to identify and recognize our difficulties in order to settle them, assured PCC Political Bureau member José Ramón Machado Ventura at the organization's General Evaluation Meeting in Havana’s Cerro municipality.

Having extended their scope, the First Vice-President of the Councils of State and of Ministers also said, the Party members are more self-critical than years ago. However, he added, much remains to be done, mainly regarding the members’ awareness of their duties to the Revolution, and it’s the quality of their daily devotion, not their number, what best illustrates the Party’s work.

About the speeches delivered by Raúl Castro, President of the Councils of State and of Ministers, in Camagüey province on July 26 and to the Cuban Parliament on December 28 last year, and in closing the constituent assembly of the VII Session on February 24 this year, Machado Ventura underscored that every future change will be made within the context of our socialism. And it’s precisely the Party, the workers and the whole Cuban people who must be leading the battle.

Among the topics discussed by the attending Party members were indiscipline, the struggle against corruption, meeting attendance, rejection of improvised decision-taking, and the need for Party officials to be more demanding. Similarly, they talked about the response to people’s statements following Raúl’s [July 26, 2007] speech and the local and immediate solutions to many of them.

Also present were Pedro Sáez, Political Bureau member and First Secretary of the Party in Havana; Party Secretariat member Víctor Gaute; and Ernesto Jústiz, confirmed as the top Party leader in Cerro municipality.
