The Iranian House of Latin America visits Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela

Any person with a clean soul should believe in values such as justice, equality and liberty and the peoples of Latin America – after moving away from a neo liberal model – have demonstrated their faith in these principles, grasped also by the Muslim peoples of the Middle East. That is the conviction that supports the work of the Iranian House of Latin America (HOLA) to strengthen a unity which, it considers, relies on a communion of values between both latitudes.
For this purpose, two of its representatives Amir Tafreshi and Salim Ghafouri, visit Cuba before continuing on to Nicaragua and Venezuela.
“When the bonds between peoples are strong, political relationships cannot be broken by any error,” they explain.
The non-governmental organization, HOLA, with this conviction, has, among its priorities, the promotion of cultural ties of Iran with the peoples of Latin America. The visit to the island aims to promote joint cooperation in this field and for which they are meeting here with personalities and institutions that can help.
“If we want these ties between the two peoples to be long lasting, we must base them on cultural aspects – they affirm – and these can only be created among persons.
“We are working in that direction and use all the media possible: films, music, visual arts and everything that can introduce our culture in Latin America and, at the same time, take Latin American culture to Iran. We must only know how to do it and what is the correct manner to understand and know each other better.”
In their opinion, imperial propaganda intends to demonize their country and has also presented a very negative point of view about Cuba; they intend to separate us. “They know that if we unite we can create a very strong front on the basis of human values.”
“We must stand strong.”
The visit of Amir Tafreshi and Salim Ghafouri to JR is a good opportunity to ask about events in Iran. The most recent: the speech by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at the United Nations General Assembly and his fiery answer to the aggression against his person at Colombia University after an invitation by the director of the institution to visit the New York university.
“Upon his return to Iran many people went to receive him at the airport although the government had said it was not necessary.”
They recall how Colombia University “planned to humiliate our President, the representative of our people.
“They placed screens and televisions in plazas and public places to show how our president was humiliated. But the action turned against them and the plan to humiliate Ahmadinejad turned against Bush,” they commented.
— How can your country assume living under a constant threat of aggression by Washington?
— These pretexts of the United States to find a means to attack Iran are not new. Several years before, with different pretexts, they attacked Iraq. Experience has shown us that the only intention of the US government is to dominate the Middle East.
“The Islamic Revolution of Iran confronts US arrogance and that is why we must be strong. For that reason, also, people in Iran have decided to stand behind their government at all times. The majority thinks like this and is prepared to defend their nation when necessary. If they attack us they are going to face something much more terrible than what they faced in Vietnam. It will be a very bitter experience for them.”

Todo hombre que tenga un alma limpia debe creer en valores tales como la justicia, la igualdad y la libertad, y los pueblos de América Latina —con su retorno del modelo neoliberal—, han demostrado su fe en esos principios, aprehendidos también en los pueblos musulmanes del Oriente Medio. Esa es la convicción que anima la labor de la iraní Casa de Latinoamérica (House of LatinAmerica, HOLA) por potenciar una unión que, estiman, está sustentada en esa comunión de valores entre ambas latitudes.
Con ese propósito, dos de sus representantes, Amir Tafreshi y Salim Ghafouri, visitan Cuba y continuarán viaje después a Nicaragua y Venezuela.
«Cuando los lazos entre los pueblos son fuertes, las relaciones políticas no pueden romperse por ningún tropiezo», explican.
Tal convencimiento argumenta también que la organización no gubernamental HOLA tenga entre sus prioridades la promoción de los nexos culturales de Irán con los pueblos latinoamericanos. Su paso por la Isla quiere promover la cooperación conjunta en ese campo, para lo que sostienen encuentros aquí con personalidades e instituciones que puedan ayudar.
«Si queremos que los nexos entre dos pueblos sean duraderos, debemos darle una base cultural —afirman—, y estos solo pueden crearse entre las personas.
«Estamos luchando por eso, y utilizamos todos los medios posibles: el cine, la música, las artes visuales, y todo lo que pueda introducir nuestra cultura en América Latina y, al propio tiempo, llevar la cultura de América Latina a Irán. Solo tenemos que saber cómo hacerlo, cuál es la forma más correcta para poder entendernos y conocernos mejor.»
En su opinión, la propaganda imperial que intenta satanizar a su país y que también ha presentado desde un punto de vista muy negativo a Cuba, intenta separarnos. «Saben que si nos unimos, podemos crear un frente muy fuerte sobre la base de los valores humanos».
«Debemos mantenernos firmes»
La visita de Amir Tafreshi y Salim Ghafouri a JR resulta una buena oportunidad para indagar sobre el acontecer en Irán. El más reciente: la intervención del presidente Mahmoud Ahmadineyab ante el plenario de la Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas, y su airosa respuesta a la agresividad con que fue recibido en la Universidad de Columbia, luego de la invitación que le cursara el director de esa institución para que compareciera en el centro de estudios neoyorquino.
«A su regreso a Irán, un gran número de personas fue al aeropuerto, a pesar de que el propio gobierno había dicho a la población que no era necesario hacerlo».
Recuerdan cómo, en la Universidad de Columbia «tenían un plan para humillar a nuestro Presidente, representante de nuestro pueblo.
«Colocaron paneles y televisores en las plazas y lugares públicos, para que todos vieran cómo era despreciado. Pero hubo una reacción opuesta, y el plan de desprecio a Ahmadineyab se revirtió contra Bush», comentan.
—¿Cómo se asume en su país el hecho de permanecer bajo la amenaza de agresión de Washington?
—Estos pretextos que Estados Unidos está buscando para atacar a Irán, no son nuevos. Varios años antes, con otros similares, atacaron a Iraq. La experiencia nos ha mostrado que lo único que pretende el gobierno de EE.UU. es el dominio del Oriente Medio.
«La Revolución Islámica de Irán está haciendo frente a la prepotencia norteamericana en la región, por lo que debemos mantenernos firmes. Por eso, también, las personas en Irán han decidido estar junto a su gobierno en todo momento. La mayoría piensa así, y está preparada para defender a su nación en el momento necesario. Si nos atacan, van a tropezarse con algo mucho más terrible que lo que fue Vietnam. Será para ellos una experiencia muy amarga».
