Julio Martínez, first secretary of the UJC on a national level made these statements in the evaluation assembly in Pilón, second to last in Granma province. “We must find ways to encourage more young people to want to join our ranks”, he said while acknowledging that it is necessary to sustain an inviolable condition: those who join the organization must do so as a result of an exemplary attitude in society. Julio Martínez added that the UJC evaluation assemblies in Cuba have been characterized by a constant concern of the militants to improve the work of the organization, a factor which demonstrates the maturity of UJC in these times. “During this process several reflections of our Commander-in-Chief were published, as well as the speech by Raúl on the 26th of July, and that has given us valuable tools and arguments with which to do our political work”, he explained. He pointed out that the municipal discussions have concentrated on three main subjects: the responsibility of the organization in the formation of values, the functioning of the UJC and preparation of the young people for the defense of the homeland. He added that another concern of young people must be to focus on analyzing alternatives to employ with the young people and not to view the Integral Improvement Course as the only means to solve the problem of those unlinked [to society, i.e., non-employed, ed]. In a conversation with 99 delegates to the Pilón assembly, Julito ["little Julio", ed.] called for a raise in combativity and critical spirit in the ranks and for confronting delinquent actions, inadequate conduct and corruption. |
