Ciego
de Avila – Theory has it – and with reason – that there is nothing as
practical as a good theory. But it just so happens that reality
surpasses all possible rules and one must be aware of what’s going on in
life if we don’t want it to pass us by, quietly and without much
effort.
This relationship between daily life and what our brain tells us was one of the strong points of the UJC Assembly, above all, regarding he movement of militants into the ranks of the Party.
In theory, we are all members of the Grass Roots Committee. When we reach the age of 30 we must go through the corresponding process of selection in order to enter the Party. In theory, selection into to the leading political institution in the country, should be made by the young people themselves even if it is still not the right time.
However, in practice that is not what happens. “We have grass roots committees where militants are not yet 30 and those who say no when asked if they are willing to move into the Party,” one strong-voiced and petite delegate said.
She gave examples, and they were not unique since, throughout the discussion, other delegates talked about problems of growth. Briefly, the criteria were based on the causes of this problem that was one of functioning and incapacity to reach the persons and knowing their concerns, and an example of the double standard.
“It is surprising to find militants who have good conduct and who are even exemplary and when the time comes to move on to the Party they say no. This is a sign that something is wrong or they did not say or were unable to be more profound. This is significant of a loss of values,” she said.
They may not be wrong when considering the virtues of men and women who decide to link their future to those of the country; there has to be honesty, humility and courage. But these are patterns that they are not born with but that are developed – more than instilling – and they cannot prosper in a climate where there is no space for a deep and wide-ranging discussion.
“Not everything is the color of roses,” said Yamila Cruz Padrón, first secretary of the provincial committee of the UJC in Ciego de Avila. “It is not only personal example, there must also be requires exigency; there must be commitment and promotion of space for participation.”
Lien Rodríguez Moreno, fourth year student in the specialty of General Integral Professor, pointed out that if we want to rescue values – and offer the Party the best militants – we must promote a spirit of criticism and self-criticism as well as the capacity of discuss among them.
“We are still not strong on this point,” he pointed out. “Many of our students lack the courage needed for criticism and self-criticism and that, today, is vital. Everyone says they are willing to defend the homeland with a weapon but they are unaware that the country is also defended with honesty.”
They are not also wrong; the right climate is necessary to promote discussion and honesty. Get rid of “I won’t say anything…you’re crazy? …then they’ll take it out on me”, and, at times, although the time to raise the hand has passed and voicing problems we face, while seated. They say that being silent is the task of wise men and that is correct. It's just that, there are times when keeping quiet is an act of opportunism and, on the other hand, saying them out loud is an act of courage.

DE ÁVILA.— La Teoría. Dicen —y con razón— que no hay nada más
práctico que una buena Teoría. Pero sucede que la realidad
supera todas las normas posibles, y uno debe estar al tanto de
la vida si no desea que esta le pase por encima, tranquilamente
y sin mucho esfuerzo.
Esa relación entre los cotidiano y lo que ordenamos en nuestro cerebro fue uno de los puntos fuertes en la Asamblea de la UJC del municipio avileño de Florencia, sobre todo en lo que respecta a los pases de los militantes de la Juventud a las filas del Partido.
En teoría, todos los integrantes de un Comité de Base, al llegar a los 30 años, deberían vencer el correspondiente proceso de selección y entrar al Partido. Por la teoría, hasta deberían ser los jóvenes mismos los que solicitaran el ingreso a la máxima organización política del país, aun cuando no llegara el momento de arribar.
Sin embargo, sucede que en la práctica no ocurre así. «Tenemos comités de base donde hay militantes que, al llegar a los 30 años, dicen que no cuando se les pregunta si están dispuestos a pasar al Partido», dijo una delegada pequeña de estatura, pero con voz bien fuerte.
Puso ejemplos, que no fueron los únicos, pues en el transcurso del debate otros delegados contaron problemáticas alrededor de ese crecimiento. Sintetizando los criterios, se coincidió en que parte de las causas de esa situación estaban en un problema de funcionamiento, en una incapacidad para llegarles a las personas y conocer sus inquietudes y en una muestra de doble moral.
«Asombra que existan militantes que tengan una buena conducta, hasta son ejemplares, y al llegar el momento de pase al Partido, digan no. Señal de que algo estaba pasando y no lo dijeron o no se supo ser más profundo. Eso denota una pérdida de valores», se dijo.
No le falta razón, y más cuando entre las virtudes de un hombre o mujer, que decide unir sus destinos con los del país, deben estar la honestidad, la humildad y la valentía. Pero estos son patrones que no nacen, sino que se desarrollan —más que inculcarse— y que no pueden prosperar en un clima donde no exista el espacio para el debate profundo y plural.
«No todo es color de rosa», advirtió Yamila Cruz Padrón, primera secretaria del comité provincial de la UJC en Ciego de Ávila. «No solo es el ejemplo personal, también hay que exigir, hay que comprometer y propiciar el espacio de participación».
Lien Rodríguez Moreno, estudiante de cuarto año de la especialidad de Profesor General Integral, apuntó que si se quieren rescatar valores —y con ello tributar mejores militantes al Partido— se debe fomentar el espíritu de crítica y autocrítica, además de la capacidad de debate entre ellos.
«Todavía no somos fuertes en eso», señaló. «A muchos de nuestros estudiantes les falta el valor para criticar y autocriticarse, y eso es vital hoy. Todo el mundo dice estar dispuesto a defender la Patria con el fusil, pero existe poca claridad de que el país también se defiende con la honestidad».
Tampoco le falta razón; solo que para que el debate y la honestidad se impongan debe crearse el clima para ello. Desterrar el «Yo no digo nada, ¿tú estás loco?, para que después la cojan conmigo», y que a veces pesa a la hora de levantar la mano y pronunciar la inquietud que nos atosiga en el asiento. Dicen que callar es de sabios, y es verdad. Solo que a veces; porque en otros momentos, autosilenciar las palabras es un gesto de oportunismo, y en cambio, pronunciarlas, un acto de valor.
