Deaf monarchs and paralympics, world, Pan-American and national champions are putting the final touches to their participation in the V National Paralympics which begins Friday and will be played in four provinces of the country.
With three days left for its inauguration in Sancti Spiritus everything is ready in the central province for hits of baseball, goal ball, judo (m and f, exhibition) and wrestling will count with the participation of athletes who are members of the Cuban National Association of the Deaf (ANSOC) and the National Association of the Blind. These associations are members of the Cuban Association of Handicapped (ACLIFIM).
According to information released by the organizers, there will be about 800 athletes participating in this event for handicapped.
Names such as the swimmer Adonis Leon, long jumper Kenia Carvajal, sprinter Yundis Castillo, shot putter Gerdán Fonseca and the wrestlers Sergio A. Pérez and Yiangalini Jiménez, among other medal winners in international meets, will add prestige to an event which will offer its quota of triumph to the human spirit.
At the conclusion of events in Sancti Spiritus they will continue on to Havana and from the 26th to the 28th there will be seated volley ball (ACLIFIM) for men and women and on April 2, 3 and 4, weight lifting from a wheelchair (ACLIFIM).
The three associations will meet in Matanzas in March (29, 30 and 31) for swimming and chess and from the 6th to the 7th Havana will host track and field, volleyball (ANSOC) and table tennis (ANSOC-ACLIFIM). The closing ceremony will be in the capital on the 8th.
This V event is specially important because it will be the prelude for three important meets: Pan American Games for the Deaf (Valencia, Venezuela from 10 to 19 in August); the World Games for the Bline (Sao Paulo, Brazil, from July 27 to August 7); the Para Pan American Games of Rio de Janeiro (August 10 to 19). The latter two are classifying meets for the Paralympic Games of Beijing ’08.

Monarcas sordo y paralímpicos, campeones mundiales, panamericanos y nacionales dan los últimos toques a su participación en la V Paralimpiada Nacional que a partir de este viernes se disputará en cuatro provincias del país.
A menos de tres días para su inauguración en Sancti Spíritus, todo se encuentra listo en esa provincia central para los torneos de béisbol, goal ball, judo (m y f, de exhibición) y lucha, cuarteta de disciplinas donde se verán involucrados atletas de la Asociación Nacional de Sordos de Cuba (ANSOC) y de la Asociación Nacional del Ciego, entidades que, junto a la Asociación Cubana de Limitados Físico-Motores (ACLIFIM), son las principales tributarias.
Según cifras aportadas por los organizadores serán alrededor de 800 atletas los que intervendrán en el clásico más importante del deporte para discapacitados en casa.
Nombres como los del nadador Adonis León, la saltadora Kenia Carvajal, la velocista Yunidis Castillo, el balista Gerdán Fonseca, y de los judocas Sergio A. Pérez y Yiangalini Jiménez, entre otros medallistas en citas internacionales, prestigiarán el evento que aportará su cuota al triunfo del espíritu humano.
Finalizada la jornada espirituana las acciones se trasladarán a La Habana y del 26 al 28 habrá voleibol sentado (ACLIFIM) para hembras y varones y, entre los días 2, 3 y 4 de abril, baloncesto sobre silla de ruedas y levantamiento de pesas (ACLIFIM).
Las tres asociaciones se reunirán en Matanzas (29, 30 y 31 de marzo) para la natación y el ajedrez, y el 5, 6 y 7 de abril en Ciudad de La Habana para la porfía del atletismo, el voleibol (ANSOC) y el tenis de mesa (ANSOC-ACLIFIM). La clausura será en la capital, el día 8.
Esta V edición cobra especial importancia porque será el preludio de tres importantes reuniones, los Juegos Panamericanos para Sordos (Valencia, Venezuela, 10 al 19 de agosto), los Juegos Mundiales de Ciegos (Sao Paulo, Brasil, 27 de julio-7 de agosto) y los Juegos Parapanamericanos de Río de Janeiro (10 al 19 de agosto), estas dos últimas citas clasificatorias para los Juegos Paralímpicos de Beijing’08.
